    Hi Everyone,

So I have managed to put some time into sorting out my Discus tank and got a lovely piece of wood from @spider and awesome moss from @Firefly - Thanks so much!

Here are the pics, I am open to any suggestions :)

    Tank specs: 224lt
    External Canister filter
Inhabitants: 4 x Discus, 15 Rummy's, 2 x Bronze Cory's, 2 x Panda Cory's, 9 neons and 10 black neons (the neons are to be rehomed and then I am getting cardinals instead)

    Before:

@Aqua, looking really good, and the tank is just a nice size for 4 discus.. your fish look really healthy!

did you silicone the rocks to the base of that lovely piece of wood or is it just balanced like that?

are you going to add more plants or keep it nice and airy / open? i like the open look at the moment.. it works for that tank with those fish.

suggestions: how about covering those rocks with some of that moss as well?
and.. remove the bronze corry's and add another 6 of the panda corries, they love to shoal close to each other and they do look beautiful scouring the bottom of the tank in a group like that..

    Thanks everyone!

@Mariusb - apparently this is the best moss to have in a discuss tank for both the lighting and temp, as well as being a hardy moss, so I believe it will work out well :)

@mydummyname - I didn't silicone the rocks, was not necessary as they are heavy and its only really the right hand side that is needed to keep the wood in place, and that rock is on top of the wood.

I am not sure about more plants at this stage, but it is likely, as my BGK keeps on uprooting my new plants in my main tank, so will more than likely transfer some of those excess plants to this tank, but taking my time to do it and not rushing... Re the cory's, I only got the bronze cory's yesterday, and also have 2 sterba's cory's along with the panda cory's which makes 6 in total and I was told that they will still shoal although they are different species of Cory's.. is this incorrect? if so I will do as you have suggested as they really are beautiful and I can always move the others to my main tank :)

I used all the moss already, but will see how this grows and then I can always get some more or actually now that you mentioned it and I am thinking about it, I wouldn't mind a different variety of moss for the rocks rather..

Also enjoying the open look, I must say, and as soon as the neons are gone, I will be looking at getting 1 or 2 more Discus as they should be in a school of at least 6 they say, I think the tank will suffice as the water quality is excellent and I do weekly water changes of around 30%, I also use Seachem Discus Trace twice a week, to give them a little extra :)

Will post more pics as I go along, Candice

you are correct, different species of cory's are known to shoal together, in my experience tho (i have 2 sterba's, 1 bronze and 4 panda's - i'm looking for more panda's at the moment lol) i find that they tend to stick to their own kind perhaps more than most people say, but having said all of that, the main reason i suggest keeping it all panda's is simply because of how awesome the panda's look in a group. you would not regret having about 10 of them in the tank.

as for keeping more than 4 discus in a 224L tank, i think guys like @Marco and @Singularity, @Dirk Bellstedt and a few others would be able to better answer that question, altho i think maybe 5 might be the maximum given that you have quite a few other smaller fish in the tank as well, and as we all know, the last thing you want to do is overstock a discus tank. not sure it if i have the figures right, but i think its recommended 60L for the 1st discus and then 40L for each discus after that - but i speak under correction and i believe there are other's with better knowledge on this than what i have.

    Thanks @Skye01, @Takumi and @SloMo.00. :)

@mydummyname, yeah, well only going to have 15 Rummy's, 5 Cory's (sadly lost one of my panda cory's now now, they are still very small) and 6 Rams as smaller fish and later a Bristlenose and about 10 cardinals (will get the Bristlenos and cardinals when the neons have been collected), its a case of deciding or being advised on the better option: 1. having 5 discus which are shoaling fish and which I believe should be in a group of at lease 6 actually to feel secure, with good water quality and with the filtration I have as well as weekly water changes, I don't foresee a problem or 2. Having only the 4 which I currently have with the same water quality for fear of 'overstocking' but then perhaps they will be a little stressed out due to being only 4? I will wait to hear what others have to say. I don't have to get more if it's advisable to rather keep the 4 that I have only, just thought it best to keep a minimum of 5 and preferably 6 in the tank. Either way, I am happy as long as they are happy :) i have read that 10 gallons (37lt) is suitable for 1 adult Discus...will read about it some more and wait for others' feedback... :)

    Hi Aqua

You can get away with 5 discus in that tank. You will just need to increase the water changes to accomodate for the increase in bio-load. They will be happier if the group size increase

    Update:

So I managed to get another 2 Discus, therefore I now have 6, note that 2 of the 6 are smaller, so as for the bio-load this should suffice, I am also increasing the water changes to 2 x per week. I have also rehomed the neons and have now got 6 Rams, 10 Rummy's and 4 Cory's as tank mates for the Discus.

I am falling more and more in love with the Discus each day, even to the point that I am contemplating changing my main tank to a Discus tank... but still not sure, as I love all my other fish too... not going to stress about it too much though, as what is meant to be will be, and if I am fortunate enough to get a pair out of my current stock, then I will look into it more seriously and I can change the 224lt into a breeding tank - I know its somewhat of a pipe dream, but you never know and I dont expect it over night either, just thinking ahead :)

I have also added some valis to give them a few more hiding spots.

There has been a little aggression in the tank, but they are probably establishing the pecking order, and I believe that this can happen at any time as the pecking order can change at any time...I have started using some Bio-Elite anti-stress to keep them calmer and it seems to be helping...

Here are some updated pics (the picture quality is not that great, so I have taken out m olympus DSLR (which I dont really know how to use yet) and am busy charging the batteries, so I can attempt to take better pics once I have figured out how to use it):

Moved the tank and my office around so that I am sitting right next to the tank and can watch them all day :)

One of my new additions: Apparently a Calico/Nebula Discus according to the strains info on philippine discus society's webpage (the beige one with blue hues in his fins)

These 2 are always together and the orange one is the one that gets aggressive when any of the others come near the pigeon blood..
