New Discus Setup

Hi All,

Looking for the Discus experts for some advise.

Looking at setting up a Discus tank and need some advise. Will pool filter sand be fine as a substrate? Is it wise to go planted or leave it non planted for them(by planted I mean a few Amazon swords et. nothing over the top)? Lastly, any breeders in Cape Town that I can hook up with when I have my setup ready?

if i had to do a discus setup i would mimic this man all the way.

He is fabulous, also any queries he will help you and respond.

 

@MarcF Hi there. I have recently been researching the exact same questions you have asked. Alot will depend on the size of discus you are getting. If they are on the younger side and you are going to grow them out ...I would suggest going bare bottom at first and you can look at substrate etc later when they are older. Also I would suggest getting parasite free fish (you will thank me later ) Please PM me and I will share Prof Dirk and Andrews details with you. They breed parasite free fish and are also based in CPT.
