so the lady and i took delivery of a new bookshelf on monday this week....and before Friday came.... developed MTS issues.

    got a new 1ft Nano :D

decided low tech with whatever plants i can prune from the main tank. Half moss on mesh and a cup of fluorite black sand stolen from the main tank

used half a bottle of Safestart....now to decide on what to have! :)

let me know what you think

I have to agree the empty look and the tank only looks awesome!!!

Just a thought the plants all do well at low heat maybe take the heater and filter out...

A nice Beta pair and then you are really low tech!

Nice setup. The bookshelf looks awesome.

With a tank on each shelf you should have some sort of overflow system so that water flows from the top tank into the lower tank and so on. That would be epic.

im thinking of making the moss floor again but cutting mesh into an irregular shape....will it look more natural on the floor? (instead on an exact rectangle in the nano, maybe it will look more natural like the moss is spreading out over the floor)

    will it look better?

so many ideas! so little space in a nano :p

also: never kept a nano...aside from a betta...what ideas for stock??

realitically, how many small fish can a 1ft tank hold? 3?

You could keep a good couple, with decent maintenance. Look at microrasboras or Borara's, they'll do great, and you could keep more than three. (stocking density has always been a rather personal opinion) I would keep like 5-7 boraras in here, but other would push it more/decrease it by far. Maybe some endlers? They'll also look great in there. In all honesty, the sky is the limit, as long as you can keep up good water quality(the biggest issue in a nano), and youre not stunting the fish.

It looks great, and I would also go for a nano per shelf if there was space and time and cash :)That way you can experiment with different things in each tank. And you'd only need one good air pump to run a bunch of sponge filters.

so all ive done additionally is add a bunch of elodea to the left hand side..i think it balances the overall look of the nano but does it look too cluttered? have i lost a "clean look" in the nano? (agree or disagree? too much? too little? )

hopefully the moss will grow as fast as possible to cover my mesh and spread out more.

I will be honest I prefered the original version and no v2.0 :) But that is a personal opinion. I just like the uncluttered aspect.

The Elodia is going to take over something crazy, so I'd vote for the original. Maybe put some moss on the top of the rock instead?

    UPDATE :::: 5 weeks late

so here is a little update after about 5 weeks - i've not done much with it and did actually neglected it apart from trim the elodea and top up water.

moss has gone a bit mental...needs a trim...or in fact i might let it grow wild and go jungle. you can see it has crept over from the carpet to the wood on the right. also the moss on the top of the wood has grown outwards like a christmas tree :p

I also cut my sponge filter in half to make it smaller to hide it behind the wood a bit better

    Nice!

Just be careful letting the moss go wild. The top stops the light from penetrating deeper into the moss "ball" and this could kill off the bottom layers of the moss. A trim is often the best way of keeping the moss healthy! But it's looking fantastic!
