    Hello everybody,

Since the topic on books recently came up I thought I'd start a new thread on newly (relatively speaking) published books. Below are my last 2 purchases as well as one that I still want to buy. Feel free to chip in and list any new books you are looking for or still to be released etc.

First up, Fishes of the Orinoco in the Wild. I love this book, it gives a brief description of the fish in each photo, where it was taken and some general notes. Anybody that has tried taking pictures of fish in the wild will really appreciated the photos. More of a photographic book than a research / husbandry book it will show you the fish in their natural habitat if you need setup ideas.

Next up, The Bichir (pronounced Bu-sheer per the book). A very informative book with all the Bichir species (including the rope/reed fish) in it. Since they get too big for most tanks, I have never been keen on keeping them but they are interesting fish non the less. That being said I really enjoyed the book and will definitely try and keep some of the smaller species. It also lists which species has been bred (something that is difficult to find on the internet).

Lastly, Cichlids from Guinea. So I am struggling to get this one. The shops that have is do not ship to SA.... Anybody on here that bought a copy perhaps? Any feedback on the book?

Would love to hear of other new books out there!

    @Little Nicky

I have seen the cichlid book reviewed / advertised in PFK magazine.
It seems quite expensive, and very niche. So not a priority for me at the moment.

The nerds corner has surfaced... Really keen on this thread bringing us together to find good reads. Literally all of the books I own are left in SA and there's not many aquarium related so I actually want to start a new collection of books

I think because its such a niche book you might learn about few new species you did not know about…

You are confusing age with nerds! Lol! Think the older crowd will appreciate the books more.

I must have about 3,000 books in my library covering a big range of topics - fish keeping, general wildlife, ornithology, gardening & botany, palaeontology etc etc etc

Fish keeping books must be around 250 titles

@Reedfish I dont have nearly as many books as I dont like to buy a book if I havent seen it. However, online reviews are helping. I was in London in (2001) and walked into a big book store in central London. Was like a kid in a candy store! The store was absolutely massive. Dont think we have ever had anythink like it in SA. When I flew back the airline was not happy with my luggage weight.

The best bookshop in London is called Foyles. A huge boook shop, about 4 stories. Was this the one you went to ??

They aren't as good as they used to be. In the "old days" they used to have loads of obscure publications. Now they have gone a lot more main stream.
    But still worth visiting.

Hahahahaha I think we might need to explain what a "book" is to certain members.

Its those things that you dont need to fact check everything they say as the editors did it already.

Do you might filling us in on where you managed to get the Fishes of the Orinoco asb, I was listening to a podcast featuring Ivan Mikolji and it was fantastic!

The note of the George farmer book, I was very keen on it especially when he was shipping the signed ones however from was Iv heard it doesn’t cover the “advanced” topics in as much details as I would have hoped so I held off.

Could everyone that posts these awesome books hopefully post links or locations to where they managed to purchase them please.

@J’den Bought it directly from Ivan Mikolji’s website, www.mikolji.com. The Bichir Handbook, their website www.thebichirhandbook.com directs you to https://flikthru.co.uk/ and George Farmer’s book can be bought on Amazon.

With regards to George Farmer’s book, might be worthwile to see if you can view a few pages on it on Amazon and read the reviews there. I like the view option as you get a good feel for the book.

I was chatting to George via Instagram a while ago he’s rather prompt online and very willing to engage! I’m sure if you Dm him he’ll send a signed copy still
