    Hi Prof Dirk

I am waiting confirmation of 15x "Orinoco" Altums (5-6cm) which hopefully will arrive next week.

I have an order for Flubenol 15 which is coming from the UK. Should I need Flubenol before my shipment arrives could you perhaps help me out with a dosage for a 680 litre tank ?

    Regards, Gavin

    Hi Gavin,

Looks like you have nerves of steel if you have ordered altums....... I hope that they will survive, they travel very badly and one tends to have losses within the first two weeks after arrival. They also do not normally succumb to parasitic worms in that period, but rather to bacterial infections. Have you consulted the angel fish forum about treatments they recommend for the initial period after landing them?

    Many thanks and kind regards,

    Dirk

    Thanx Dirk,

I have about 18 typed pages of "research" from TASG. The most informative was Granville's thread on acclimatizing and dosage regime. Granville is the guy who arranged the Flubenol 15 for me

And yes I am in a bit of a panic over two things - can I keep them alive. If I can keep them them alive and well, I will probably get rid of 5 in a month or two.

    Kind regards,

    Gavin

Most times they won't respond to 'newbie' questions. Better to ask away here, unless you really know your stuff, and the TASA members can help (we're not selfish with our info :D )

Hey Wito - the angel fish forum is a group that studies mainly wild fish from the Orinoco and Amazon river drainage areas. They go into the taxonomy and all the scientific detail on the wild fish. If you lurk around their forum for about a year :) and make sure you read each and every post - of which there are thousands, you can pick up a lot of knowledge on Angels. The reason they are a little aggressive towards newbies is that 90% of all the questions you could ask has already been answered somewhere on the forum before (many times) So they can be a little testy about a question that has an easily found answer.
They support Project PIABA - which is a really worthwhile project to inform the world about the wild fish species that are being destroyed and how the aquarium community can help that effort.

Zafgak, Congrats on your pride to be. I read somewhere they can get 40cm+ from tip of dorsal to tip of anal fin(50cm in wild). I will drive through to CT just to come see that some time.
Don't want to jack your tread, but I take it you guys have P scalare "wild form" or close relatives as well. I have finally got a pair petshop hybrids, a golden vailtail perlscale male and a leopard female ready to spawn. I would really be interested in wild type descendants.

Hey Rodger - I have 3 wild P. Leopoldi's p- which are left from a group that Henk raised. Henk actually got these Leo's to spawn. I dont think I will have any luck as they are about 5 ior 6 years old. I also have 12 P.Scalare which are F8 I think. Those I can get you if you are interested..

Well I have suddenly and very quickly run out of tank space. My angels have paired up and are busy cleaning breeding space, so they need to go in their own tank, I am visiting a Discus breeder in George Friday morning with the aim of getting some discus once the angels are out in their own tank. My Betta's are wanting to spawn and I have been promised some killi's by a former forum member. Will most probably put off raising more angels for breeding till the summer then I can do that outside.

Again enjoy your babies, best of luck

    Wito-zn,

Don't get put off my these guys, the TASG, is an angel fish forum which is pretty specialized. They know their stuff and you can get excellent info there by just doing some browsing. But you have to know your stuff if you want to contribute because some of the folks there are a little sharp.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
