Hi there all you fish lovers

I just wanted to share my excitement with my recent addition to my community tank.
Sadly tho, i could only add three of them at this moment in time, due to the obvious insanely high price that these beauts go for.
Nevertheless, they seem to be doing very well and have added some brilliant colour and activity to my 6 footer.

Will hopefully be adding a few more within the next month or 2.

    Regards

Any info of where they are going for a lower price, would be appreciated.
    Thanks

They are around, I have seen them at around 130 -185 each, late last year I bought 10 for R85ea, so the price has increased significantly. They are really cool fish. Keep your oxygen level up especially when it gets hot, they will be the first casualties if you O2 level drop, especially if your tank temp reaches around 28C.

    Thanks for the advice @Jwh.
Have done a lot of reading up on these guys and my only concern is exactly that, dissolved oxygen levels.
Im running a pressurised Co2, heavily planted tank with sump, and surface movement and the sump removes a lot of the Co2.
The balance between consistent levels of Co2 and keeping a high level of O2 is a trick that i need to get right.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks

I run a similar setup, although I have canisters with spray bars, watch you temperatures as we enter summer, torpedo barbs do best at 20C - 24C, my tank reaches 28C, and then I have experienced problems, I have an air pump on standby, and once I see distress I stop CO2 and run the air pump with 2 big stones, I have found running the air pump is extremely effective. I do not cool my tank down by adding iced bottles or use fans though this may help as well.
You understand the relationship between dissolved oxygen and warm water, keep your eye on the temp and watch the fish as temps go up and you'll be fine.
Good luck and enjoy the new ads....

    Hi
The first one is commonly called Twig fish, also referred to as Royal Whiptail catfish or
    Royal Farlowella Catfish.
Another truly stunning fish to watch.

    Thanks @tanked72.
If you are on the lookout for them, my LFS in the vaal has a whole lot that came in last friday at R100 each.

I have my guy for about 6 months now and he"s absolutely peaceful and a real conversation starter.

    Hi @tanked72.
The royal whiptail usually gets to about 12cm in length, however some say that they can get to a maximum size of 15cm.
Lifespan of about 5 to 8 years.
If kept with peaceful tank mates, they will make a good addition to a community tank. Provide them with hiding places in the form of pvc piping, this will give them the opportunity to hide away in the daytime and become more active after lights out.
They will accept most foods, they do exceptionally well on a diet of sinking pellets, blood worms, lettuce, and cucumber. They will even accept meaty foods like beef heart and most live and frozen foods.
They seem to be the perfect tank mates for the rest of my community tank and do well in tanks with a temperature of 20 - 25 °C.

    Hi tanked72.
Not a stupid question at all.
The guys in the first pic are "Red line torpedo barbs".
    A very sort after fish.
Mainly imported from India and constitutes of around 65% if all fish imported from that country.
The high demand has caused this species to be over fished and owing to the fact that they don't breed in captivity, they command a high price tag.
    Beautiful fish to watch though.
Im considering trading in my explorer, as sitting in front of my tank gives me farmore pleasure than tv.

    Regards
