I do have a filter but would love to have a cleaner tank.. and I agree with you that filtration is more important. maybe I can just add the other T8 bulb for now and then buy a better light at a later stage

do you perhaps know where I can look for this? at what store?

I have to agree with @hviviers75 on this matter. The Zlights are awesome and you can't go wrong there but your tank isn't heavely planted at the moment so you might run into some algae issues.

To me filtration is the first thing that needs to be perfect on any tank. I tend to over stock so it will always be over filtered from the start.

There will always be another time to upgrade the lighting. Plants are very patiant and forgiving.

Thank you @pierreschoonraad I think you are right about the plants and filtration. I have the T8 Tube on for about 11 to 12 hours a day and all the plants are fine for now. everything is growing but slow.. I've added a bit of plants here and there. took out the moss on the round cave thingy..

sold 1 of my tanks so added those plants also to the 300L tank. Think I should add the other T8 tube in the front of the lid so that the plants in front in the shadow can get more lights.

Will take a nice photo again when I do a water change this week.

I personally would not leave the light on that long, rather get a timer and leave it on for 7-9 hours rather, you might be getting algae rather sooner then later. If you only have slow growing plants then extra light wont them grow faster. what are ferts are you dosing for your plants. Yes good idea more plants are always better for eco system and fish.....looking forward to updated photos....

6 to 8 hours is enough for plant growth. More will grow algae.

You will really see better growth with adding some type of fert, maybe get some seachem flourish, or Scape complete.....

I have 2 red swords, 4 baby bristlenose plecos, 12 neon tetras, 11 black neon tetras and 20 glowlight tetras at the moment in the tank. filter needs cleaning again.. still need to check for good prices on the canister filter (Dolphin-C1600) I want to buy for the tank.

Looking good plants have grown in nicely, dont clean your filter to often if it still blows strong leave it. and remember to rinse off and clean in removed aquarium water.....your best bet is to rather look for 2nd hand canisters new is hectic expensive I bought my dophin c1600 2nd hand for R600 works 100%

yes thanks for the advise, I usually just take the fish poo out. I'm a bit scared to buy second hand.. what if you buy a filter that does not work 100% like yours do.. I agree that you get honest people but sometimes you don't. don't want to take the chance of buying second hand so will rather save up and buy new. especially with the canister...

I also looked at previous photos and its nice to see how the plants grew since then. the tank looks very nice at the moment and happy with the plants in it

Now I just need to add that extra light! Can't wait to see the difference.

do you think I should rather put the swords at the right side of the tank? maybe it will hide the filter a bit for now?

Yes that is also true, I was very fortunate with both my 2nd hand canisters no issues at all..... when you do water changes take filter out and rinse everything out in removed water..... remember most of your plants are low tech and dont need much light, but 2 tubes will be more then enough.... try and get a aquaglo tube it brings the colors of fish out nicely..... good luck....

Yes you could do that just bring the filter on the right down a bit and place the sword in front of media section :)
