The LEDs are amazing!

Can you please tell where you got them and the model? Still looking for lighting for my tank :)

hmm .. So I have been converting my tanks in the fishroom to LED - nothing fancy but still LED. It starts all great and I went ooohhhh with the shimmer, but now that more and more are being converted it is starting to feel like a jewellery store in Hong Kong...

The Led look more crisp and colour is more natural; Leds do have higher CRI. Great looking tanks

Sure the LED look great, but make a choice based on what?
I know you guys like pics. As an engineer I like data/stats. So can we have some facts regarding LED and Tubes used, wattage, K-rating, price of light system, depth of tank etc. ...etc.
Perhaps asking for light levels at substrate level would be pushing it a bit, ... lol

Guys, look @ the pic, compare the colours, look @ the greens, compare the brightness? Once you have done that, I will tell you what it does, and not only what you c? Cause what u c, does not grow plants, its what lights does that grows.

Hennie, I see what you mean. With the T5 the green is greener.

"Whether or not a bulb looks "natural" to you is totally subjective. It depends in part on what you're used to. If you only see the world under cool white fluorescents then that is probably what looks natural to you. If you live somewhere with frequently hazy or overcast skies then you may be accustomed to "natural" light having a color temperature near 7000K. If you live somewhere with clear skies and infrequent cloudy days then your natural light might have a color temperature closer to 5000K. If you are used to north skylight then maybe a color temperature close to 10,000K seems more natural. In any case of actual natural light the light will render colors pretty well. That is usually not the case for fluorescent lamps with a high Kelvin temperature rating. If you want a high K lamp that does render colors accurately then you might try finding the Philips C75. It has a 7500K color temp and a 90+ CRI. It could be hard to find and a bit pricey. "

I re-read the above this morning and it is probably a good view on why "it looks natural" can not be the only measure ...http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/lighting/38014-lighting-spectrum-photosythesis.html

Funny that post 4 in the same thread also struck a cord.

As for my tanks - I am toying with the idea of T5 opple 6500k and LED mix - just because the HK glitter is getting to me. As for what will grow the plants best .. Time will tell.

@HennieRoux - Like I said on the other side, I do think these will grow plants. The Light intensity of LED is a lot higher than T5. You are getting algae which is a common indicator of too much light and not enough co2 and ferts. That's what hair algae is a sign of. If your light intensity dropped with the addition of the LED's, you wouldn't get algae at all, as the light is the accelerator pedal.

Give them time. Up the co2 and ferts and see what happens.

@Sean J even if the light intensity is supose to be higher, it does not look that way when you are infront of the tank. Also the colour of the LED does not compare to the Odysea unit?

I personally do not think that the Nemo light gives off as much light as the Odysea unit, it also does not reach the plants @ the bottom as the Odysea unit.

I would need @ least 2 Nemo units to get enough light.

Now...It has beed 2 weeks, and my tank is deterarating slowly, plants melting, and algae most places. I am so upset with this buy, I will be returning this light. I kept on doing what I normaly do, dosing my ferts scheduele, and increased CO2 to 3 times my normal dose...so sad to see all my hard work go down the drain.

That's very sad news! It's definitely not a nice feeling seeing all your hard work going down the drain.

Hope you get your tank back to its old self soon.

Their website spec sheets really don;t give any indication of what their lighting systems offer.

1. They do not mention anywhere what NM or Kelvins they use; simply White, Blue and Red - this means nothing.
2. They run more blue that red; more than double. this is really not needed as Blue leds (450nm) penetrate water far better. White led's (Assume 6500K) have a higher 450nm blue (0.7 RE Intesity/1.0) peak than the 660nm red (0.2 RE Intesity/1.0) which is low on 6500K but required for photo process.
3. What is the % duty the led's really run at?

I am not sure @sub-lime but I was told they they will be more then suffiecient to probide the right light for my 3 foot. I do not agree @ all with this, and @ R2500 a unit, its not cool.

You rally cant compare then can you? I would not doubt that the led's would not grow plants but comparing 34w to 136w.
Also Grow Lux lights have a full spectrum and peak high in 450nm and 680mn.

Even Watt for Watt the grolux tubes will give better plant growth (bushiness, colour and flowing).

Led's are great as they concentrate light well and last long without swaying NM to much, but no point having all the power without the right peaks to activate the Photo process.

Told by who, the people who sell it ;) We should all know by now most staff at LPS don't know anything or know a useful amount about a specific item/field. I have yet to go to a LPS here that can give me any real info on what lighting systems can do besides reading the packaging label back to me. which is generally crap unless you are paying for quality like Maxspect; Even Kessil i have my doubts about, but that's for another day.
