need some help!

I have been been watching my tanks and have found my one tank has small wormy things on the side there about 1mm to 5 mm, white and there is allot of them! the fish look fine but these worms scare me a bit?:amazed:

 

What colour are the worms and where are they? On the glass, swimming around, in the a substrate???

 

Maybe planaria?

 

Was thinking it may be that as well.

Wingman, do they look something like this? What are your ammonia levels sitting at?

 

Wow, cant say they dont look the same or they do to small same color, there seem to be a little thicker and then have a litle bit of a tale. Dont know the amania level tester sudenly whent missing, amaizing when you need one. PH is neutral?

My othere 3 tanks dont have them?

The worms are mostly on the glass and just above the surface?

 

How often do you do water changes on your tank and syphon the gravel? Also do you overfeed your fish (difficult one that as I think most people do )

 

Water change once a week, and feed 1-2 times a day depending if there is any food?

Still in the tank? Looking closser wow there are allot? are they dangerous to the fish?

 

Try 'starving' your fish for 2 days - NO FOOD, as tempting as it may be. They won't starve I promise, they'll be fine. This will give you a head start on getting rid of them. Do a good water change and syphon the gravel at the same time. If necessary do a daily 20% water change for a few days. It'll take time but eventually the worms will die off. In the beginning it may seem as though you have more of them but don't worry, you don't, it's just them desperately looking for food. Don't feed your fish too much, especially while the 'worms' are still present.


They are usually caused due to
overfeeding
high ammonia levels
gravel not being cleaned property

It's a pity you don't have a macro camera so that we could get a picture of them...

No medicine will get rid of them - just pure and simple good hygiene practice. They aren't harmful to your fish though, just unpleasant to have around. Try and cut down drastically on the amount of food you feed - fish really don't need as much as we all think they do. There are exceptions though...like Discus for instance

Great to hear! Just remember not to overfeed. Fish should be given no more food than they can eat in a few minutes.
