Need some advice re. regenerating Purigen

I am using purigen to assist with taking some of the tannins out of the water from the driftwood, and I assume due to having 3 pieces, it got dark brown pretty quickly. I had a spare one that I replaced it with, and then proceeded to follow the instructions on how to regenerate it, I put in the bleach solution 1:1 to water and then soaked it, and continued to read to see what the next step would be after the 24hrs passed... only to see it then said... 'for freshwater' .... with another method on regenerating it using a buffer (discus buffer is recommended)... so now.. since the beginning didn't specify for salt/fresh water, I am not sure if this is going to be fine for freshwater or not.

I completed the process none the less and then rinsed it and let it soak in the dechlorinator and water for 8 hours (actually a little more to be safe).. now the bag has an slight ammonia odour... question is, is this normal? and is this going to be safe for my freshwater tank?

Use more dechlor and swish it around every hour or so.

 

Yup. As per slojo. Make the dechlor solution failry strong.

I usually do exactly the same as what you described above... except I leave the Purigen in the dechlor for about 2 days, swishing is every time I remember.
