I see you in Pretoria but Wazeers in Boksburg are quite good at sourcing spares when i need
    Maybe give them a ring

Thanks! will give them a call first thing tomorrow morning.

I've contacted a couple of shops nut most of them just say that their suppliers don't have.

    Hi,

I was looking for a sobo impellor a while back, gave up eventually. Whats wrong with the impellor? I managed to fix mine with some superglue and have had no issues since.

The impeller is a bit noisy, but it still works 100%, im just starting to look now before it is too late. What did yours do?

Mine wasnt pumping the water at all. I opened it up, took the plastic bar out and superglued the rest of it together, then once this had dried I put the bar back in.

If its noisy maybe it just needs a clean, one where you take everything apart and rinse each part individually.

    Waking up this thread again....

    I have a SOBO SF-1500F-UV ...

The filter works 100% and I'm very happy with it in general...tank's been super clean since I got it...but..

Recently, I opened it up for a decent clean, even taking out the UV lamp and the impeller (that was a big mistake).
When I took out the impeller, it was covered in fish poop - so I cleaned it properly and put everything back together. Now it's so noisy I have to turn it off when we're home.
    I can't find a replacement anywhere online.

Has anyone go any idea where I can shop for a new one? I went to Petworld XXL (Cape Gate, Brackenfell) where I bought the filter not even a year ago... they also can't help.

    Jumping on the band wagon...

Purchased the SF-1500 (non UV) purely due to the price and the fact that I am trying to do this as cheaply as possible, while still doing it well.
I got mine from Rebel Pets, transaction was seamless, delivery to my local pickup point was very fast (they are in JHB and I am in KZN, got it pretty much the next day)

With great excitement it was unboxed, assembled and put on the tank. It seemed sluggish but was working. Next morning it was dead and I mean DEAD.
Arranged return with Rebel, was quick and easy. They got it, their supplier tested it and sent a video of "the same" unit working fine, I was shocked as I have owned many canisters in the past, nonetheless I accepted this "evidence" and my apparent incompetence, so they sent it back to me. I received it back and to my astonishment, it was totally dead, like wont even come on... DEAD.

I was highly frustrated and sent it back to Rebel who replaced it. I cant praise the Rebel Pets team enough, their supplier less so.

So the replacement has been running for about 4 days, working well but it is definitely a noisy unit. Started off quiet but its progressively got worse. It works well, but if you want something discreet and quiet then this might not be for you.

    Still great value for money.

if it's noisy it's got air trapped. Mine is still belching a month later. Give it a shake.

I would also permanently seal the elbows with epoxy glue. They're a big letdown on what is otherwise good value for money. On the ADA I replaced the plumbing with glass lily pipes and the air sucking stopped for good.

    Thanks for the feedback,

I have used glass Lilly Pipes too ;) I suspect you're onto something with the trapped air however.. I have leaned it over, spoken to it nicely, given it a shake, still sounds like an old diesel motor... Must be ingress elsewhere..

    OK ..

Taking your advice, I shook it with a little more intent and despite some suspicious leakage, the noise is definitely reduced.

    Thank you !

Leakage? That sounds ominous, and may be the source of your suckage.

Those impellers can be surprisingly difficult to track down. If you haven't already, I would try contacting a few local aquarium stores that carry SOBO products, as they sometimes have spare parts that aren't listed online. You could also post a photo of the impeller and shaft measurements, since there may be a compatible unit from another SOBO model. While you're at it, have a look at your tank plants too I have had good results with Bacopa caroliniana care and found this guide useful https://botanapp.com/plant/bacopa-caroliniana. Hopefully someone here has a spare impeller or can point you to a supplier.
