    Hi Prof

I have been reading a lot of threads and a lot of people use natural sunlight as light for there tanks. My question is, what are the good and bad things about natural sunlight on an aquarium? My sister inlaw has a tank that has no artifical lighting (if you would call it that) and she relies mainly on sunlight to light her tank and i have noticed that there is constant algea growth in her tank.

Thank you for all the help
    Steve

All my tanks get direct sunlight for at least 2 hours every day(3-5pm), my plants are all medium to low light and are doing fine. No CO2. Silica sand. Just normal liquid fertilisers. I have lots of BN plecs that don’t give the algae a chance. Sunlight in moderation is really working well for me.found the balance. Just my 2cents

it helps plant growth. i would say 2-3 hours would be to your advantage(watch out for algea growth because it is natural if having direct sunlight for a bit of time but it isnt too much).
but the disadvantage is that as you sister in law has experinced lots of algea but plants and plecos would control tat if only a few hours of sulight.
with lots of sunlight you would get hectic algae growth
    sorry i cant help anymore
