The rule here is that no naming and shaming is allowed I'm afraid.

Unfortunately you will likely encounter many stores like this in your fishkeeping career. Normally they are the smaller shops, but sometimes larger shops are guilty too. One thing you can do is give your local SPCA a call and ask them to investigate. They should be able to at least give the management a stern warning, which at least for a time gets the staff to keep everything in shape.

You can also stop visiting those stores, and tell your friends (off forum) to refuse to shop there.

    Regards,

Could you not send private message to all the members so that it is kept 'CONFIDENTIAL" all you were doing is SHOWING YOUR CONCERN FOR THE FISH.

This is still kinda a grey area. If people PM you to ask, then ok... but to go and PM all the member??

Good point @Zoom, IMO it would be better if interested people PM the poster. That way people living outside the area, who would not be likely to shop there anyway, won't get 'Spammed' with information not directly relevent to them.

    Hi all

As most of you know I am the owner of multiple businesses and we are opening a second Pet Stop branch in Wonderboom Junction Pta. Due to this I cannot be everywhere, see everything and check everything L As a responsible person and a serious business owner I would love to get feedback when my staff or my shop gave you the wrong advice, attitude or just acted improper.

    BUT

    And this is important guys!!!
(I am not saying this case is one of them, It does not sound like it)

I found that 90% of the time complaints brought to my attention are due to miscommunication or a customer that are looking to score a discount or something similar. The other 10% is something that need to be dealt with IMMEDIATELY. The problem is most of the 10% are not brought to my attention by the complainant but by someone else that was told about it. WHY did the person not take the time to contact me and allow me to sort it out for them?

So my personal opinion is CONTACT THE CORRECT PERSON FIRST!! Then if you are not satisfied you can start to take steps and tell other people about it. But do not drag a forum into it as then you expose the forum to legal action and that is something neither the owners, moderators and forum members could afford to happen, where else would you be able to GREAT advice and get notified of special deals, new arrivals and new technology to just name a few.

my 2 cents, if you see a pet shop with loads of dead fish:
know that it's not safe to buy livestock there.

rather educate forum members, if a customer asks 2 easy questions (for example: are those male or female guppies? and how often should I do water changes?) If the staff member gives bogus advice, then the customer must know that the staff are clueless.

Then the client can choose to take it up with the manager or etc. etc.

@ 10i - it would be interesting to know how many people that buy fish from a LFS or a pet shop are actually members of TASA - or any other 'fish keeping forum" for that matter.
Judging by the amount of members of TASA I have a feeling that the vast majority of fish are sold to people that are not members of any organisation and are just simply folk who want a fish tank with some fish in it. I think that only us folk who are REAL enthusiasts about fish keeping, join forums.
I suspect that - SADLY - most fish sold in pet shops are sold to ignorant or should I rather say uninformed members of the public - WHO TRUST THE INFORMATION THEY RECEIVE - from the salesman selling them their fish. I think that the majority of sales are to people that decide to buy a fish tank on a whim. And OF COURSE - the salesman that is selling them their tank and fish MUST KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT - because he works in a pet shop - and so they buy the tank and their fish and take them home.
The (NEW) customer to fish keeping does not always know if they are receiving bogus advice or genuine advice - ANY advice they will trust and believe in.
I wonder how many fish are killed by unsuspecting uniformed members of the public ???

yea ur 100% right @eros111 , recently i had to help a friend build a new tank cause of the bogus advice he recieved about having a a goldfish bowl... but now he is on a more white road anf another enthusiast :D but i mean i knew a girl in my school she has maybe a 40-60L tank and she bought a bala shark? it all leads to not doing ur research , i as habit only ask the staff of the forums sponsors for advice any other fish shop i go to i only ask if they have the fish i want , otherwise just listen to what ive been taught here and read :)
