Mysterious white algae

I have this weird algae like substance growing on my newly planted UG

 

Does anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it

 

Is it the anubias range UG?

 

It is, doesn't seem very happy under the 'algae'

 

Did you wash the gell out before you planted it? If not its fungud growing. Try and clean it out

 

Jip, probably some type of fungus.
Do not think there is any species of white algae, except if it's dead.
However, it shouldn't cause any harm and some fish even likes to eat the fungi that sometimes form on leaching wood.

 

It will smother the plants

 

I've had it in my tanks too. Looks like *pardon me* snot, and it can also build up on driftwood, rocks, and other ornaments. Rinsing or vacuuming it out doesn't really help, it just starts over. Best just leave it alone. It'll slough off and go away sooner by itself. I noticed that the fish nibble at it, so it's not toxic.

 

i have the same on my soaking driftwood.. fish seam ok with it..

 

It is Fungus. And on driftwood it goes away by itself in a few weeks given you leave it be. But I agree with Ryno. It will suffocate the plant.

 

It def smothered the plants, puled out a bunch of goo yesterday, 2 or 3 tiny bits of ug left, I thought I had rinsed it enough, lesson learned next time much more rinsing
