Yesterday I was in Cape Town and of coarse I had to stop at the pet shop. There I saw (and bought) two sweet gouramis. They look much like the orange gourami with the turquoise stripes but they are turqoise with orange stripes. The female is a little paler and smaller but she is also beautiful in her own way. I think they are called 'emeralds' or something like that. Anyway I will post pictures of them a little later, when I have time.

@Rooivlerkie: Sad to say both of those look like males. Females are extremely rare in the trade mostly males are bread because of their colours. Females have no colour whatsoever, so they don't get sold often. Male dwarfs have a more pointed dorsal fin than a female's which is rounded. Here is what a male and female look like, female has no colour:

Those are the only ones it's terribly difficult to sex them. All are tank/linebred variaties of the Trochogaster Lalius. Neons are verrrry prone to Dwarf Gourami Disease !! A shame of this marvelous fish (only like the wildcolor one hahaha).

What is this disease? Is it contagious.? Can it be cured if the fish have it?

This is a viral disease that they catch when bred in Asia. Did some research overhere cause a lot of fish died with mysterious symptoms. At the UK-forum I found the answer. Google at dwarf gourami disease or Iridovirus !

I dislike dwarf gourami purely because they are very aggressive fish towards their own species and too other fish that might look like them had 2 males in my tank till they killed a few fish.
