So @A new day gave me this idea of starting a thread that shows my setups and with this i could keep track of how things progress.

I thought this was an amazing idea, so this is exactly what im gonna do.
But for me to share all my setups i need to share my back story and my difficulty with keeping all the systems running.

Ive always loved keeping and breeding animals, more specifically fish and birds. And thankfully my parents were always happy to help. So i started with the basic of keeping red devils as my starter fish, and for those who know the cichlid red devil..... crazy fish to start with, especially if you have no clue about fish that eat other fish, needless to say...... my neon terta school starter pack did not last long in my tank, but the devils had an amazing meal. So ive always had cichlids, malawis, Oscars, angels, convicts and my tanks grew in amount. I moved away from the bird keeping hobby with the help of my little brother that thought it was a great way of getting back at me by opening all my cages because i did not want to share the plastation with him the day.

So i fully committed to my tanks. But saying committed means that all my tanks back then where just filled with cichlids

So i went of to varsity, lived in pta and studied in Potch. So i could not take all my tanks with me. To my disgust i learned that my family did not have the patience that i did with my fish, as i came home after a few months and saw most of my fish died and they let the tanks run almost dry as they did not have "time" to do water changes and care for the fish.

So i with a sadden heart gave the rest of my fish away and emptied my tanks only keeping my 250L jewl tank with me in potch.
7 years later i was done with my studies (no i did not follow basic potch protocol and flunked the first 4 years ) i did diploma then a degree and then honors.

I finished about 2 years ago and got a job working at a school in jhb. So still being away from my parents home it gets tough running the tanks as i stay in a batchelor flat at the school.

So with all that in mind im gonna share the settups. The bigger tanks are not kept with me and that makes it hard to see the progress as my family often leaves the tanks to evaporate to half the amount of water. Like this weekend i had to come and fix everything. So lets hope and pray that in the near future i get the space i need to have my own little fish room

I'll post all the tanks in the coments as i go.

So this is deffinatly one tank that i am exited to work with in the future.
Its a 4p0L tank thatbwould make a great planted setup i think and adding angles and discus to a deep tank looks amazong. But unfortunately. Im not able to keep it as neat as i want to.
At the moment this is the tank standing in our lapa and my brother keeps buying angles and putting them in. So it doesnt allow me to do a nice rescape and make it look nice.
This is also home to my oldest fish. My pleco that is about 5 years old now that came with me from potch. Got to about 20-25 cm now and im so scared to leave it with them as i got here the other day with the tank light thats been left on for the whole week. Obviously it made the poor thing stress and it had some fading spots develop.
So im praying for a nice new place soon.[IMG][IMG]

    Next the convicts
I do have a thread that i posted when they strugled to breed.
Since then they have had 2 batches of babies. First batch my brother did not take action quick enough and they where eaten by the other convicts. But the second batch where added to a tank that was supposed to be a sump filter for a 4 ft tank we made. But the base of the 4ft is cracked as someone stored something in the tank and it probably dropped in and cracked the base.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Last tank at my folks place is the small 100L malawi tank.
I only have 2 Malawi's in at the moment. So i would rather keep it at that for now.[IMG]

Next i have my jewl tank set up at my girlfriends place.
Started a nice little comunity tank with a few plants just for hiding place so the shrimps can also live in it.
Pls dont judge my scaping skill on this tank
It gets better i promise [IMG]

Last i have my 3x 2ft tanks and 1and a half foot tank i set up at my flat.
The small one is where i tried to do the shrimps in but epically faild due to being in to much of a rush.
So im cycling 3 tanks at the moment and im waiting for a stand to be build for the 2ft tanks so i can stack them and save space.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Cool.
The thing you need to know about this forum is that people are extremely generous in sharing their knowledge. And the depth and bredth of the accumulated knowledge on this forum is astonishing. I can’t explain to you how much this has helped me and continues to help me, it’s really a game changer! And it’s a supportive community so it’s a give and take, co-creation really. So my 2c for tapping in:
    - actively ask for advice and input. Ideally even in the planning stages, but whenever. There is almost always someone who has experience with even the most obscure corners of the hobby. Including people with some mad DIY skills (not me btw )
    - lots of YouTube and other research then use the forum as a sound board.
    - read through old threads on the forum. Use the search function if you’re interested in something specific. You’ll be amazed at what’s available
    - be appreciative and give back as much as you can in whichever way you can. Support, encouragement, advice in the areas where you have some experience etc. Follow other threads and comment etc.
    You won’t be sorry :)

Probably the nice water change and redecorating of the tank that helped them
