    I would wait for a proper second hand fitting if it's t5, if you are looking for led's rather buy new as they have a limited working time

    Lucky you ... you in for a treat ... loads of thoughts on LED lights
    google
    site:tropicalaquarium.co.za LED

    Now what works better than others largely depends on number of lights you are willing to add. Not all xWatt light gives 1) good plant spectrum (less of an issue if you push more lighting - yes controversial ) 2) acceptable lm/W - aim for > 80lm/W 3) Worth the price.

    @mr_meen has crazy DIY skills https://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/threads/diy-led-nano.28407/#post-357817 not sure what his success was with those on that project.

    This thread was our recent all-chip-in .. https://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/threads/led-bulbs.28750/

    he he ... yeah those are the type that I had less success with but some of the others just upped the number of lights. At 30Watt that is allot of light - assuming the throw is the same as the 10 watt units you will probably need 2 actually 3 to cover all of the tank. If you are going down that line maybe 3 20watt units on your
    Look if it does not work for the fisk tank - well then you have a good security light for the house, so maybe worth an experiment?

    If you do .. please keep us posted on the pro's and con's ..

    @f-fish Thanks man, I try.

    I only use LED on my shrimp tanks. They are 1 ft cubes and I have had amazing results. Plants are growing like mad at 6-7 hours light per day no dosing at all.

    They are 10-12 Watt lights bought at builders or ACDC for about 80 bucks.

    Will try post some pics when the tanks have been cleaned and trimmed :p
