    Hey all.

Thought I would begin a thread for my first planted tank.

Will post all my progress and regress here. Hopefully with some much needed guidance from all you fundies here on TASA ;)

    Base setup:

    Tank:

    Boyu HX800 (120 litre)

    Lighting:

Some very random reeftek T5's that came with the tank. I need to relook at the lightning from scratch. Only space for two T5's in the hood. Any recommendations?

    Filtration:

    Tetratec 600 canister
Small submersible to run the built in spray bar and filters in the hood. Not sure if I will use them though.

    Substrate:

    ADA Amazonia

That's where I'm at for now. So excited to get going.

Will start to plan the scape this week.

    Cheers

    M

    Hey all.

So I thought while waiting for some equipment to arrive I would start on the hardscape.

I have a lot of Amazonia that was kindly donated by a friend who's moving overseas, so that's a real winner.

I had a cool idea to take a photo of the basic hardscape and use some photoshop to work on the layout of the rest of the tank.

Will post up the photoshop edit tomorrow.

    Hi Guys

So I used some of my photoshop skills to do a mock up.

    Check it out.

Let me have your ideas on the layout.

    :)

Very cool, keeping that "path" clean won't be easy, especially when you vacuum the substrate

    Thanks again.

I have been working with photoshop for many years but this is actually pretty easy to do.

The only hard part is sourcing the plant images and editing those to have a transparent background, but I have started a small library which I am more than happy to share with everyone so they can have a go.

If there aren't plants that I have in the library I am happy to.add them as well.

I would be happy to do a tutorial on how I did this as well.

I think it's an easy way to plan your vision so you are not shooting in the dark.

So with the arrival of the filter it felt like Christmas and I was 5 years old!

It didn't take me long to rip open the box and start laying out the filtration.

I don't want a lot of clutter in my tank so I want it as neat as possible. If any of you are married you will know what I mean ;)

The slots for the in and out on the Boyu are not deep enough. The inlet doesn't reach the water. So with some engineering (a hacksaw) I made the bigger so the inlets sit nice and snug and have good immersion.

Looking neat so far. Will still decide if I will use the extra submersible to run the built in spray bar.

@mr_meen, this is looking really good. I look forward to seeing it progress.

Could you elaborate or show a bit more what you did with the inlets in the boyu?

I have a Boyu EA100 and the inlet holes are in the lid. Which is a nightmare if I ever need to lift the lid off to do some real work. I end up avoiding it at all costs. I do 90% of my work through the small flap in the front.

Was your standard design similar? Or were the available holes always separate from the lid cover?

    Hi thanks. Yeah progressing nicely.

My cover has two separate sections. One at the back which houses an internal filter and the bigger one at the front with the lights and the flap.

The back section already had holes either side. I just needed to make them bigger so the out/in would sit more flush with the tank rim.

I will post a photo a bit later today.

For maintenance I will just remove the front cover as the little flap is not much good other than maybe feeding.

    Cheers

    Thanks. Photos would be great!

If I understand correctly, I already see the difference. Mine also has a front and back. Back being for the internal drip filter system and front being small flap and lighting. But they are one unit. If you lift the lid off the tank, they ALL come off.
