Ok so I got my new tank on friday. :p

Specs: 600 x 600 x 400. 8mm base and 6mm sides. I allready bought a surface skimmer for the tank. The light in the pic is a bit long, but it will have to do for now. Will replace the tubes with two 8000k tubes, one 6500k tube and one gro lux.

Filtration will be: Cascade 1000 canister filter.
Heating: 300W heater (not yet decided on make)
Light: Odyssea 900mm Quad unit (allready got the hanging kit)
    Substrate: Normal black sand.
    Wood: Grapevine

I will be building a cupboard myself for this tank. Thinking of using 25 x 25 square tubing for the frame and then wood to surround the cupboard. With shelves inside. Or maybe a similar design to the ADA style as @ivan has built. Still to decide.

This tank is going to be a Fern and Moss tank primarily.
Thinking of Ferns: Narrow leaf java Ferns, Java Ferns, Windelov ferns, Bolbitis, Not sure what else can go in
Moss: Java moss, Fissidens, not sure what else.

    Open to ideas.

Brand new. :aetsch: Water marks due to the leak testing. Will clean it properly before and after setup. The light also needs a clean. Bought it from a guy on MASA. Can you guess what I paid for it? :flute:

Serious cash? R1500 at a guess but I know nothing about the price on these units. I know they are very fancy and very expensive. I would possibly use them if I had open top tanks.

Why does your water mark the glass so quickly? Looks like limescale. I actually thought you had cut braces away and that those were silicone marks.

Jip, that is about the rate you'd expect to pay for that unit. But I think I ripped him a bit. Or shall I say... He ripped himself a bit. R300 :party2: The tubes should work out around R300. So total investment R600. :five:

The guy said he used it for 6 months. It's a 4 x 39W T5 unit. As you can see it's too long for that tank. But It should work. Luckily it has two switches. So I'll immitate a sunrise and mid day effect. Hope it works. Two timers on the cards for this unit.

I intend doing the same with a few more lights than you (lights in my 100l and new ones). I will land up with 2x54w T5's, 2x20w T8's (White), 1x10w actinic and possibly 2x10w T8 (white). I will go actinic, 2x10w, 2x20w and then 2x54w and then reverse of this to switch off so I'm going to need 4 timers!

Gona be a nice tank. The water up here is very hard unlike your capetown water thats why we get the watermarks so bad! Its not tooic of an issue. Motvates ou to keep the tank topped up

    :aetsch: He he.

The tank will have some Otto's and Harlequins in it. Not too much fish though. It's gonna be a long road seing that Ferns are slow growers. So I'll atleast get some experience being patient.

@hviviers75 ,You'll get your tank soon enough.

Does anyone have ideas for other Moss or Ferns I could look at?

Thanks @Ryno, I'll take you up on that offer. Xmas moss sounds like a good candidate. Never seen it for sale though.

@DewaldC , Anubia's could work yes. But I'm leaning more towards ferns and Moss for this tank. It's kind of like a species tank with plants.
