after a lot of reading and finding out what the basics are,and what would fit the pocket for a small setup i bought some gear. so this what i bought one jebo R3100 100cm long 62cm high 48cm wide. the tank comes with a drip filtter powered by a 900lph pump/power head. in the filter i put 2L of ceramic nooddles and a few layers of filtter floss. and 50g seachem purigen. and ehime 300 watt heater. for bio filtering i put in two oxegen plus sponge filtters
below if got 95cm long 65cm high 47cm wide. in that tank i`v got a cascade 300 with floss and carbon power head 1600lph to circulation and a lifetec 300 watt.
i put in a tap. the only thing for now is a drain, but that will come. to get the water up to my tank i got a 2500lph pump and hoes

so after what seemed like the longest wait ever, two weeks ago i got the call to go to the airport.
i would like you to meat my new friends eight red spotted green discus.
i made the order with @Altum after loads of emails chopping and changing what my new discus were going to be i settled with RSG
at this point i would like to thank @Altum for a great job with the little ones. there was not one loss in transit and he has helped me over phone and via BB.to make sure i`v crossed all my T`s and dotted all my I`s
at this point "early days" im doing 50% water change every other day and feading six to eight times a day.
still waiting for them to settle down a bit more so i can take some more pics

    @doug

sorry to dissappoint you, but in my opinion, these certainly DONT look like RSG discus at all. Perhaps I will be proved wrong once they mature. All the same, good luck with these fish.

    regards

    Hi guys,

Firstly, Im only commenting on this thread as basic info, and I by no means pretend to know the origin of the fish Doug has.

Whither these Discus are red spotted green discus or not is open to interpretation. There is a worldwide tendency to "label" Discus on appearance only, without really taking into account their true, lets call it Genetic origin.
At face value these fish are: a) Turquoise green, and b) showing some Red spots. So calling them Red spotted green, based on appearance is thus not entirely incorrect.
It gets muddy due to the fact that Red spotted Green also already exist as a Wild type strain, and this then becomes confusing.
If its implied that these fish are wild type, or even from Wild type, I categorically say No, it definitly is not the case.
Based on appearance only - sure, then its name is quite descriptive. Though Red spotted Turquoise would probably be an even more refined description.

How are these fish arrived at? I have found that they are mostly from the 50% Leopard Snakeskin pairs that revert back to its nine bar origin, in other words Leopards (as @pHish_man indicated), or they cross Leopard discus with Red Turquiose and move ahead from there selecting on appearance only.

Now. . . Here it becomes even more muddy! Leopard Discus are essentially Red Spotted Green Discus, crossed with Red Turquoise, selective bred for some generations. SO-in heritage the Leopard stems from the original Wild RSG.
Does that make Leopard a RSG? Lets leave that one for now.
Why do breeders do this? Simple reason-due to its genetic make-up true, Wild Red Spotted Greens do not breed true. Only a very small %off spring will have red spots, with the rest varying between pretty average greens, and possibly some Royal greens, depending on origin.
Even when selectively bred for some generations the % spotting only increases marginally, untill at approximately the 6th or 7th Generation when the spots will start "merging" and revert to red lines, similar to those found on Red Turquoise discus. Even crossing them with unrelated RSG specimens at early stages effectively throws you back to step one.
Most Breeders cant afford that. The market will be filled with tons of average F? Greens, and that just to get a small % RSG.
Solution? Breed fish that somewhat (debateable) resemble the Wild type, "fix" it and you have a true breeding strain that you can sell for crazy amounts to less 'purist' inclined aquarists.

To summarize-does that mean Leopard Discus are Red spotted greens? Compared to the genetic traits of true RSG, no.
On appearance? Well thats open for debate.
If I have a Toyota vehicle with a Ford engine - Is it any less Toyota? It still looks Toyota. If I sell it as a Toyota - would it be unethical?

Each has hus opinion on this, but unfortunately its very much part of our hobby. Unfortunately certain strains are high in demand and some breeders will try add percieved value to otherwise average fish - so its just the way the hobby has gone. Red spotted Greens have always been my favourite discus, oh-I am referring to the Wild true type one.

This loooooong post by no means detract any value or beauty, and is not intended to upset you Doug, its just useless info. I sincerely hope and believe you have great fun raising those guys and hopefully pretty soon you can show them off with some fry!

    Kind regards

    Marco
