Hey guys, just wanted to tell you about my new beta tank. I have already got the tank, its a 8 gallon?? I will have to check the measurements later. I am thinking of going open top with a lamp as lighting. It will be semi planted with some small rocks. I am going to get plants today and will post pics later.
Heres a question, Can I keep 4 pygmy cory cats or 2 albino with him to keep the bottom clean? Thanks all, cant wait to get it up and running, will post all details later when I can measure the tank.

It is better to keep Cories in schools of 6 or more, otherwise they will hide away and you will never see them. It's not easy to find Pygmy Cories. Pet Stop has Dwarf Cories (Corydoras habrosus). They reach 3.5 cm. I have 12 (only about 2 cm currently) of them in a 60l tank, so you might be able to keep 6 in your little tank. They are very active, busy-busy all the time. Lovely little fish. I can recommend them.

Hi @FishLover, I will not recommend keeping your tank open top, Betta's are very good jumpers and chances are he/she will jump out of the tank - TRUST ME ON THIS!. Betta's do fairly well with Corry's, just ensure there is enough hiding spots for them in case your betta wants to play "tag" with them. Panda's work great as well, at least 3, no less, this goes for any corry and yes 5 or more is better but considering your tank size... 3 will do just fine.

Remember that cory's are bottom feeders and not really a clean up crew. They will not eat fish waste, algae etc...

OK, thanks guys, will get a hood. Got the plants today and some plant soil mix. Planted them earlier and it looks good. Cant wait for the plants to fill out. No lighting yet but am getting tomorrow. Am going to let tank cycle for two weeks. Sorry for bad pics but here is my new betta tank: (just realised my incorrect spelling in my thread title)

yeap - drop the airlift pipe so that it just sits below the water level. You could use a peace of glass instead of a hood and the you are open to all sorts of lighting options. Maybe even a CLF for now?

Also nice thing about the glass - it does not look to out of place when you drop your tank's water level for some breeding (foam cup and all that).

THanks @f-fish , I was thinking of using perspex. Have dropped the airlift pipe to the right place. Could a normal reading lamp work with a cool daylight bulb?

    Betta tank

Sorry, turns out that the tank is between 9 and 10 gallons. 38 litres. How many dwarf/pygmy corries could I fit in there? How many normal corries, maybe 4??

Probably. What are the floor dimensions of your tank?
