I was planning on making a new culture and I put my micro worm culture on the sink as I prefer to work there with the messy stuff.
I then went to do something something and completely forgot about the microworms which is kinda normal for me, By the time I remembered about the culture and got to the sink my culture containers was standing upside down in the dish rack sparkling clean........ My mil didn't know she actually fed the culture to the dog and washed the containers. I'm really not impressed this isn't the first time she did something like this, she did the same thing with my keiffer.

At least she takes care of all the 'dirty' items in the house.

    I grow rare plants.
A few years ago I was drying out a few seed pods in a cup on a windowsill. Until my Mrs decided to bin them so she could use the cup

Oh mym knowing me I would have flipped a lid. Hubby told me to take a few breaths when I phoned him to let him know, he said he'll sort it out. But I don't think they quite get it.

Reedfish what plants do you have, I love plants but I don't quite have the green vingers I wish I had. I killed a few house plants before I was able to keep some alive. I'm hoping I will have a bit more success if I put my orchids in a paludarium as theynonly survive for about a year before their root systems collapse

Been there...my "landscape engineer" thought he'd help me out by throwing all three buckets of "dirty water" out on the lawn and washing the bins

I need my fish room but at this rate it's going to take forever as hubby first need to replace the ceiling in several room before we can do that. that way I can try and keep my cultures and small container projects safe from being "cleaned". I'm not even trying to do daphnia now. I also need the space as I don't have the space to do my bbs rack. My tanks are all in my daughters bedroom at this time and with everything it's kind of crowded in there. I have five tank setup there and then have 3 in storage as I have no where to put them.

Already did this but I will need a bigger stand which in turn won't fit as there is already to beds with a bedstand, a desk, two free standing closets, a t.v stand (for their t.v & xbox), stand with 3 tanks and all my aquarium equipment, small cabinet with 15l tank and my 2ft on a metal stand which is place in front of the window due to space problem and a toy box in the room. My 200l tank is already on the desk as it is a tall tank rather then a long.

Oy, the number of times this has happened to me...
Between the executive and functional arms of the department of home affairs, I have lost several cultures (some before they got started), seeds and plant cuttings (the latest a Rhipsalis), food and other preparations, even chemicals for my darkroom photography. But I learnt very quickly to label and stash away the hazardous, or really important stuff. Not least because I also tend to forget what I have where.

What hurt the most was losing my plants of Cyrtanthus flavus, an extremely rare and unobtainable firelily with very thin grass-like leaves, that I had grown and flowered very successfully for almost ten years, and of which I gave away copious amounts of seed. I was going through a slight rearrangement of my greenhouse, and while the pot was standing waiting for re-positioning for a few days, between my wife and the landscaper they mistook it to be empty and discarded the contents, not noticing the label buried away from sight. I could not recover the plants, as the garden refuse had been removed by the time I discovered that they were missing. So after that I laid down some stern instructions, but it was too late for the Cyrtanthus.

A while ago, I asked my father-in-law to collect some wild Welwitschia seed for me on a trip they did through Namibia. He obliged, and put the membranous jacaranda-like seeds in an empty plastic bread bag. On their way back, my mother-in-law, looking for something to use as a waste bag in the car, found it and thought it was an onion bag with onion scales left behind, and promptly upended it outside the window before her husband could say a word. So if someone discovers a colony of Welwitschias growing somewhere in the Northern Cape in the middle of flipping nowhere, you now know where they came from.

The title of this thread should be changed, haha any ideas..........

Yeah I have also lost some cushion moss once I planned to use in a pot to cover the ground and lessen moister loss. I got it from a client at my dads work in a small jiffy bag. Up to this day I have no idea what happened to it as it was still in the bag on a stand outside by my gardening stuff. never found the moss or the empty jiffy bag.

@dorff I enjoy the more tropical kind of plants which usually don't do well were we live. I told hubby I will move to KZN simply so I can grow more of the tropical plants that can't cope here. I have only lately started to show interest in cacti and succulents. I have five different colorations of Arum lilies though I love them to bit, have the purple, yellow, green, white and one pink one at this time I'm looking for the black, red and orange which is super scarce.

I collect succulents from all over (even national parks lol) but don't have too many.

My butter bakkie full of worms hasn't been tampered with at least. My mum got herself a new freezer after I got a snake, so make sure you are looking for ice cream in the right one otherwise you'll get a mouthful of mice or bloodworm!

Haha My MIL once almost had a heart attack when I still had my cornsnake as I use to keep the pinkies in my freezer and she found the bag with them in there lol. Sadly I had to sell Slinky because she had to move in with us due to her health abd she refused to untill the snake was gone , I'm tryingbto convince hubby to get me one again but he still refuses to because of my MIL.

I have a collection of Zephyr rain lilies - my mom calls them storm lilies because they put out the most beautiful pink flowers after a rain storm during spring and summer. I've also collected the seeds and have several young plants. They can withstand the harsh Mooiriver winter and come back every year.

My brother, who is a qualified biotechnologist, and I had this discussion about the rain lilies when I was trying to find out what they were for 2 years. He said the plant originates from South America in the tropical rain forests - surprisingly they have adapted to the harsh winters here and continue to come back every year. All you need to do is just water them when needed and Bob's your uncle. It would be wiser to keep them in pots as they tend to die down for the winter and come back in the spring - you know how gardeners these days tend to dig them up and damage the bulbs so its easier to keep them in pots. It took 2 years before I had to repot the one full of bulbs, being overcrowded and no more room for them to grow.

Yes they are - once they have sprouted and passed the frost stage, they're very easy to keep. All you have to do is water them when it doesn't rain and also I would suggest in frost / snow areas to mulch and cover them for the duration of winter plus some plant food / compost so that you'll have lots of flowers for the spring / summer.
