I have about 7 female and 3 males in my tank and in the past 2 weeks the females started to give birth. I got about 80 fry in the past 2 weeks and the last one gave birth yesterday morning. Some also got eaten, but I manage to save 27 of them from this female.

I usually just put the fry in a breeding net and then after a few days they are put in a small 30 liter tank to grow out.

They are fed dry foods 3 times a day and some hard boiled egg yolk on every 2 to 3 days.

I am looking forward to get my Moskow blue and Black guppy males and some females from Altum. Will post some pix as soon as they have arrived.

Nice! I had a female give birth the other day, but lost all before I could even see them. I was contemplating the morning before leaving for work whether I should remove the female or not. I should have...

How do I know when due date is close. I read that the female might lose the fry if you seperate her too early into a breeding trap. For the days leading up to the birth I could not see any difference in the female except for size. Is size the only indication?

Her back will also become more arched - in other words her tail end seems to start pointing down and she looks like she's about to pop :)

The Gravid spot in her anal area will also be very dark - In the bigger females you can see the babies eyes in the gravid spot

I had the privilage to actually witness the birth of one of my females offspring. I noticed the female swims around and then suddenly she just freezes and a few seconds after she has freezed a baby pops out. Wow you should see how the baby swim for the first safe place. It actually looks like the fry comes out head first.

I noticed that before birth the female stays on a distance away from the other fish. She is very close when the Gravid spot (or dark area) starts to make a point outwards.

You can google breeding guppy fish and read all about them, also do's and don'ts about guppys. This helped me allot.

Thanks Carping but its actually a grandma. Hope so because I have spoken to 2 of the LFS in Bloem and they said they will buy them if they are big enough and have pretty colours so hopefully I will be able to get a permanent FS that will buy all my own bred guppys.

I have decided to breed only Red tuxcedo, Blue Moskow, black and Yellow guppies. Most of this true colours arnt often seen and mix coloured guppy you can buy allot. But I am going to try to breed as true as possible.

    Thanks
