    Hi Guys,

This is my first Discus Tank, which I am busy looking at upgrading to a 200lt with more height so they can grow nicely. I have had them about 3 months now and love watching them. They eat out of my hand and follow me if I walk around the counter the tank is on. I can see why they are considered the king of tropical fish  they truly are beautiful!

    Hi Kuhli Loach,

Sorry, it is in my profile so I didn't think to put it here and it's been a while since I have posted this type of thing on TASA so forgot the 'rules'.

Here goes - 1m tank (100lt) upgrading soon, Via Aqua 300 Canister filter with 3 tiers of media (the usual bio balls, ceramic rings, phosphate remover - have a little algae issue, sponge and carbon) - 800lt per hour filtration and weekly water changes keep the water quality good , inhabitants are 2 larger discus (not fully grown), 1 medium and 1 small, 4 tiny clown loaches (want them to get bigger so I can put them in my main tank with the other 4 I have in there - I just love them!) 7 rummy's, 8 neons, 2 Kuhli loaches and 2 spotted corys.

I think thats about it :)

    Cheers,
    Candice

Thanks Takumi, I was nervous at first due to everyone saying that they are so difficult to keep, however, if you follow their requirements its not that bad at all :) they are such a pleasure!

looking good. one thing that you really should change is the corse gravel, a whole lot of crap is just goign to get stuck in there. fine sand like substrate would be better so you can vacuum any waste that settles on top. glad to read that you will be upgrading definately need a taller tank. Discus truly are really beautiful can watch them for hours.

@Aqua, beautiful tank and even more beautiful fish. Are you going to replace those plastic plants with some real plants at a stage?

    Hi Linga,

The gravel is a thin layer of soft round small stones, which I vacuum at every water change, when I move them to the bigger tank, I will change to a substrate that is condusive to plants and the Discus ofcourse, so will bear this in mind when choosing what substrate to use.

I have always been nervous of the very fine sand like substrate as most times I see people with that substrate they have green algae in the middle which looks awful.

Any recommendations on a good substrate which is good for both the Discus and plants?

    Thanks,
    Candice
