I have been keeping a venus flytrap for about 3 years now. Its stays outside and gets RO water once a week as well as rainwater whenever it rains. Winter time it dies back to almost nothing but in summer it takes over the entire pot. I was told the important part for keeping it is that it wants the cold of night and low mineralized water. It is planted in Spahggum moss with some potting soil on top as it is a marsh plant and wants to be continually wet.

So I should leave my vft outside, won't the winter be too cold for them

I had a fantastic cp collection which I had to give up when I came to the UK

venus fly traps like lots of sun. RO or rain water is good
they do need a cold dormant period.
i kept mine outside in winter.
    Never let them dry out.

    the Nepenthes are tropical plants.
they need a bit of shade, and plenty of humidity.
they grow all year and don't have a dormant period.

In terms of the rquirements for nutrient-free growing medium and water, does this apply to nepenthes as well, or should they receive some sort of root-feeding?

So I can leave my vft outside to allow it to have its dornment period, wouldn't the cold affect it, and how would I know it's in a dorment period @Reedfishand one of my cups on the nepenthes has a hole on the under side of it what should I do with the cup, trim or leave it

Leave the vft outsite. In a sunny spot, and in a saucer of water.
Most of the leaves will die back. The plant will put out new leaves in spring.

I would leave the Nepenthes. It will probably still be able to use that trap?

If you want lots of growth in spring cut the flowers off when they form. I left them on the first year as I wanted to see what they were like, Since then I have been cutting them off when they appear

    Don't feed Nepenthes.
I have read of some people who do, but they really don't need it

Yup, if you leave the flowers, they put their energy into the flowers, and the traps will be smaller and fewer.
    I also cut them off.

Here is one of my VFT:

    It is in my greenhouse.
Gets full sun, is in a tray of rain water.
Temp goes down to about 6*C in winter.

Temps have been a bit chilly in Gauteng, but I keep mine inside during Winter to ensure the water doesn't turn to ice. :)
