This is my cabinet build, thanks to some inspiration gained from Vis.

This build was REALLY difficult as my tank was stoked! So luckily I had some help from my Dad :p

So this was the first step:

I used Pine and just made sure I sealed it.

I started with a dark brown varnish as the sealer, but decided to make it black as well.

The next pic is of the undercoated hood and the resanded cabinet base.

This is the cabinet painted but without the lights fitted yet.

This is the inside of the hood.

Hey @Deem... well done! Talk about a professional start!

Now, have you managed to get any moss yet? If not, pm me your postal address and I can post you a bit to start with. Can't offer a huge quantity, but you don't need much to start with.

Thank you everyone. I am really stoked with it

Thanks to the hood, I was able to put in an extra light, and it has made a huge difference!

@tracyp - I would love some moss. Will PM you.

@Deem Yes I agree with everyone else.. a LOVELY build there mate. Just watch your algae with so much light in there... you may be forced to either turn one globe off, or introduce CO2 into that tank.

@Zoom - I only have 2 x 10W. Will that still cause algae? Will keep tabs on it just to make sure. Thanks

I'm assuming that you have a standard 1ft tank in there? Take away the space for substrate, rocks, plants etc, they come in at about 10litres of water. You are therefore running 2W per litre, which is actually considered fairly high. People running tanks this bright are usually using very strict fertilizing strategies, and running CO2 into the tank for the plants. Thus the plants outcompete the algae for the nutrients. You might be ok... just keep an eye on it.

Not to sure about the foot measurements? I only know that 4ft is about a 1.2m. My tank is way smaller, 46 x 33 x 32cm. The vloume calculater says around 48 liters.

Just so I know for future, is the watts per liter measured by subtracting all other stuff in the tank, so its not just on total volume?

Will def be keeping an eye on it.
Thanks for all the info

Sorry to bring up such an old post but I'm curious to know how you sealed your wood etc when making and building the frame?
