    Hey Gerhard! Youre back!
    Welcome.

Farm! No shucks. I was just thinking this morning that Im gonna run out of tank space really soon with these guys growing so quickly.

You are always welcome. Just gotta give them a few more weeks to grow.
    Where are you living now?

Latest update - 16 days now and the fry are giing to a 4 foot tank today.
The 120lit cube they have been housed in for the last few days has quickly become too small. Hopefully this is the final tine I need to move them.

    Well done Marco!
    :congrats:
What are you feeding the fry that they grow up so fast? Hope they all survive the move to the bigger tank and keep growing like they do.

Thanks guys @GavinD - I feed baby brine shrimp a few times a day. I also start them on a very fine granuler food from about the 8th day.
By now they get fed bbs, granulates and lobster eggs. I do however find that water management, including hardness control etc has quite a big influence on their growth.

Good.So happy that the little guy I will get from you is spoiled from the start. Don't like fish that don't know how to eat good food.

    Hi guys,

This is not an update on the thread but rather an add on.
This is a very very very nice surprise- my Electric blue Ram male with free swimming fry!
Not a sight you see everyday as this brood care instinct has been all but lost in rams.

Nice Marco those electric rams are normally not the best fish parent and health wise. Mine always seemed to attract ick when no other fish even had a spot.

@Vis -yeh you are right-it seems as if in general Electric blues are of very bad quality. The male I have here really does seem like an exception.
All Rams are very prone to white spot. I find if they are kept below 27°C this problem starts.

Its day 3 for this pair now and the fry are still doing very well. Parents are incredibly protective and aggressive at the moment.

@Marco, Congratulations on the new Powder Blue spawn. It's really awesome to see that these guys are actually looking after the fry, I love watching them, they have so many interesting "quirks"... What size tank are these guys in and are they the only fish in the tank?

Will you be selling some of your normal Ram babies when they are big enough?

@Vis -you always welcome sir. Give me a call when you around and pop in. @Skye01 -you are so right about them and their little quirks.
They honestly are some of the most interesting fish to keep. The nicest part being that you dont need a massive tank to keep them in.
Mine are in abt 80 liters and yes they are alone in the tank. Well...they were alone.
As for selling them - These will be a mix which will resemble Blue rams. It needs a bit more work before the fixed Powder blue is reached. 2 more Generations
As for Blue rams I do have some just abt a month old.
I usually supply a few LP shops with them as that makes it easier for me.

Im holding thumbs the fry will make it. Only day 3 today so lotsa days to get through before Id think they are safe.

@Marco, thanks for the info... Yes I'm keeping my smaller ones in a 1.5ft tank at the moment, just till they are out of quarentine then I'm wanting to transfer them into a 2ft till they pair off then I'll move them around... I'm interested to find out how you are going to finally get the Powder Blue refined. Please let me know where and when you are supplying to the LP shops as I would really like to get some of the babies of your strain of Rams.

Well, fingers & toes crossed, holding thumbs and all that, that this first batch of "Powder Blue" Ram youngsters make it to adulthood... Please keep the updates coming...:top:

    @Skye01

The fry from this batch will effectively become parents to the first generation 'Powder blue' offspring.
They will throw about 50% Powder blue fry and roughly 25% Electric blue and 25%Golden - according to basic genetics using a Punnetts square layout.

Those Powder blues will be very nice but once I have the Powder blue fry I will have to breed them to each other again to then hopefully get 100% 'fixed' Powder blue offspring.
From there I will have to decide what I feel they need-more blue, more yellow or whatever, and then go about the same way again breeding towards that goal.
Its a nice experiment that paves the way for a different goal I am also trying to reach with the Rams.

I will most definitly keep you posted on the development as well as the growth of these.

    Regards

    Marco
