    Bah... That's a poor excuse! :p

    There are lots of different dwarf cichlids, and the available opportunities to develop new strains is huge. So I think it would be a natural progression.

    Getting apistos locally is easy, actually. Ask @Altum...

    Adding that bit about it being a "natural progression" is not nice....
    "I put it to you" that NO Apisto can hold its own to the beauty of a nice Blue Ram
    So....
    It wil be taking a step back!!!

    Hehe -just kidding bud - but I do appreciate Rams more than the Apistos. Apistos can be downright full of crap and I dont want to have to struggle with their aggression issues. I'll leave them for you...
    Ill change once I have given up on my final Ram goal.

    Congratulations on the HUGE spawn @Marco.

    Just a quick question... Are these babies with the parents or did you remove them in egg form? Oh, & another... How many pairs do you have in a tank at a time? A single pair?

    I too have a passion for Rams & I've managed to get a few in the hopes of being able to possibly breed some stunners as well. When you have some babies to sell, please would you let me know as I'd love to be able to buy some of your beautiful babies...

    @Reedfish,
    Is this a conspiracy....you and Sean?
    Apistos...though stunning-honestly just does not appeal to me.
    There may well be +1000 types but they just dont hold up for me against Rams.

    @Skye1
    I removed the eggs this batch is from. Ive learned in the past that with Rams available in shops it is often very important to get a spawn and fry asap, as they tend to die for no reason.
    I then treat the eggs against parasites and raise them in an environment free from parasites. This ensure you do not expose the fry to the same issues the parents have. From them you can then get healthy brood stock.
    I have always bred Rams using either a pair or a trio in a tank-but have also had spawns from pairs in tanks filled with other Rams.
    I think you just need to dwcide how you want to have them raised. If parent raised Id put the pair only in a std 2 foot tank.
    Water parameters and temperature is quite important for succesful hatch rates so look at that if yours are not hatching.

    Some Apistos have better personality than Rams.. Just take A. trifasciata for instance. Amazing fish!

    :bigsmile:

    The thing I like about Apistos is they are relatively small.
    So you don't need a massive tank for a breeding pair.
    You can have a few different species in a few small tanks, which don't take up much space.

    Congrats on the huge spawn Marco. Rams are by far the most beautiful dwarf cichlids i've had the pleasure to keep. Just a pity its such a mision to get good stock.

    Hi guys,

    @Reedfish - apistos sure are nice, lovely fish and yes you right-set up a couple of 2 foot tanks and you can pop a type in each and breed away.
    Same goes for Rams though....
    You guys not convincing me to change.
    @jedigenie will attest to my stubborn fascination with Rams. He has tried in vain to sway me in other directions.

    Heres a photo I took last night. If you zoom in on some of the closer fry youll notice that the black first ray in the dorsal is already visible. 8 days and they are already mini-rams.

    Sway you in other directions? You must be thinking of the time I told you to take a long walk off a short cliff ;).

    Hi Charles.
    Yes they have grown very well. Im very happy with them.
    Holding thumbs this side as the cross that leads to Powder blue rams have spawned and the eggs should hatch by tomorrow morning.
    Not as big as this one but hopefully get abt 80 from it.

    Thanks to others for the comments
