    Hi guys,

Thought I'd show you guys the fry from my latest batch of Rams.
This is by far the largest and most fertile spawn I have had- and I suspect the fry number +200 in total.
Maybe someone has time to count them....
This is them on 6 days

Great work and well done on the spawn. They sure are happy and well fed with such a large number of fry being produced. :congrats:

@Marco - Are these ones Para-Free? It's so cool to see Ram fry! I know Joe used to breed them, but his fry never grew fast at all. They were the slowest growers of all the dwarf cichlid species.

Dibs on a few when they're big enough to sell...

    Hi

Just keep it up Charles. If fertility is low the water might need softening, or try dropping/raising temp a degree and see if it helps hatch rate.

@SeanJ - I raised these Parasite free-in other words treated the eggs and they are renoved from others but Im not gonna keep them that way. At the moment Im tryi g to build up some new brood stock so these Ill cross with some others I hope to be getting in next few weeks. Once I have a few unrelated lines going Ill get each line parasite free and then keep them as such, crossing the lines to each other to maintain and improve.
You are not the first to mention the slow growth but I find them the complete opposite. Ive always managed to get them to almost double in size daily for the first 10 days. By abt day 12-14 they usually slow down and grow a bit slower, but then they already resemble the parents to the tee, with the prominent dorsal rays clearly visible.
Will keep posting pics of these so you can see the growth is incredible.
@dash - youd be welcome to some. Not always feasible sending them as it usually ends up quite pricey but maybe we can make a plan.

    Rgds

    Hi

Apologies @Pierré Schoonraad - your post came whilst I was typing.
Both Discus and Rams have always been my favourite fish to keep.
They make perfect tank mates and thus breeding them both makes sense to me.
    Your welcome to a male!

@Marco - you should try some other Dwarf Cichlids too. There are some absolutely incredible dwarf cichlids out there, like Dicrossus, Taenacara, and the whole Apistogramma family...

Check out A. Elizabethae, A. Trifasciata, A. Sp inka... There are so many incredible apistos out there.

Sean J - The biggest problem is to get hold of them in SA.

    @Sean J
Although stunningly beautiful and character rich I just havent had the Apisto-bug bite me hey.

To be honest Sean, I have had a long term idea/plan with Rams. Previous time it got messed up when I introduced new stock-but hopefully this time I get to pull it through.

I think the Ramirezi has proven genetically diverse enough to give us quite a few "strains" in recent times, and I hope to tap into this in future.
I refer here again to the "Powder blue" types I got to in breeding the previous time. Theres also a marble variety available now, though I havent seen them in SA.

So that is part of my motivation.
Add to that the aspirations of having my little set-up completely para-free, add the risks of always adding new fish-and then it just becomes better for me to keep it simple.
Adding Apistos later will just complicate matters for me.

Thats a loooong answer to your question Sean....

    Rgds
