As you can see in the last pic there are a few unfertilized eggs but it is not that many and it is the first time these two Angels have bread so I don't think it is that bad...
I keep the tank light on so that the angels can see if there is any danger and I removed the Pleco that was in the tank Last night...

I was.... This morning I went to look and all the eggs were gone.
I am considering moving them to a 60lt tank (just the 2 Angels) and see if they will lay eggs again

Sorry to hear about your loss

My angels has also laid eggs twice and the last about two days I also removed the plec but I think if you get them in their own tank they might be lucky enough to breed successfully

    Sorry to hear :(

Moving them into their own tank will definitely help but don't be surprised if it takes them 4 or 5 tries before getting it right not to eat their eggs, even if they are in a tank on their own.

O Ok so they could have eaten there own eggs?
I thought that they would just protect the eggs until they were hatched and then they might eat the wrigglers?
O well I will move them into there own tank this weekend and see what happens

Angels often tend to eat their eggs in the beginning until they realise that by eating their own eggs they are not passing on their genes :) That being said, I've had a few angel pairs who get it right first time, even in a community tank, and others who eat their eggs up to 6 times before getting it right. Patience is the key - like all things when it comes to fish keeping :D

Angels will very very very seldom eat wrigglers or even their own free-swimming fry. If you get to the wriggler stage you should be home free (assuming they are not in a community tank) :)

Oh, I forgot to mention - your angels will most likely spawn again within the next week or two - mine spawn like clockwork every 7 - 10 days if they do not have their fry with them :)

So they eat their own eggs I thought it might have been some of the other fish like the khuli loach seeing that they are nocturnal

It could have gone either way - they could have eaten the eggs, and most likely did if it was their first spawning, or the Khuli could have eaten them.

Most often it's the angels themselves eating the eggs. I guess they are either inexperienced parents or they just figure that it is too difficult to protect the eggs in a community tank and will rather get the benefit of the protein themselves rather than let the other 'inmates' benefit from their hard work.....who really knows

Generally speaking though, and there are always exceptions, angels take a few attempts before getting it right and not eating their own eggs.

You guys are lucky. I've got 6 angels, and they don't even seem to be pairing up or even HINTING at spawning. I would seperate them, but I ain't knowing which one is male or female!

Zoom how old are your angels now??? With 6 angels you should have a 97% chance of getting a breeding pair......

The following table is generally used....

No. of Angels listed first and then % chance of getting a breeding pair
    1) 0% (DUH)
    2) 50%
    3) 75%
    4) 87,5%
    5) 93,8%
    6) 96,9%
    7) 98,4%
    8) 99,2%

I always thought my angels were 2 males but I suppose they proved me wrong....lol
but any way I can't see the other fish eating the eggs because I left the lights on to try and help the angels see if there is any threat and to keep the loaches away...

I recon my angels are about 6 months old? They are about 10-12cm from snout to anus.

Bought them about 4 months ago from LPS... so they could be older.

If they are 6 months old then you are probably looking at another 2 months or so before they'll most likely start doing their thing. It is difficult to estimate age though because growth in the first few weeks depends on water changes, diet etc. :)

If I move my pair into a 60lt tank and they do lay eggs again do I remove the eggs or can I leave them in there with the Parents?

Gareth for your own sanity (trust me on this, I've done it both ways), leave them with the parents even if they eat them for the first few times. It doesn't take them long to relay and get the hang of it. It is FAR easier if the parents raise the young and there is NOTHING better than seeing a pair of angels surrounded by their fry :)

Great thanks. I think I am going to do it that way then I don't feel like all the hassle to raise the fry.

I have a stupid Question here.... Can my Angels go into a 30lt tank and breed or will it not work should I rather put them into a 60lt tank?

I've never tried putting them in a tank as small as a 30L - the smallest I go is a 60L. Remember angels are large fish - if you do put them into a 30L tank you are limiting their swimming space drastically, especially if you plan on letting them raise their own fry. I keep mine in the 60L with their babies until the tank looks 'full', after about 2 weeks or so I split the babies between the 60L they are in with the parents and two more 60L tanks (I just personally think it's cruel to remove all the babies from the parents at such a young age). After another week or two I remove them all into 1.2M tanks to continue their growth. By that stage the parents are quite gatvol of the babies picking on their bodies all the time anyway :)
