as requested, here are pics of my 30cm(w)x23x23 nano tank.

50w heater, small internal filter and a desktop lamp with a daylight energy saver lamp.

substrate is red jasper and it has some miscellaneous rocks. plants are two kinds of java ferns and one anubias nana, all tied to the wood or the rocks. driftwood looks like a bit of vine and was bought from an LPS.

occupant is one male betta called Fishious :) he's looking a little raggedy finned at the moment due to plastic plants which were previously in the tank.

please excuse the makeshift background and lamp stand. LOL!!

This is actually a nice look!!

I'm amazed at how some people just cannot get an open-top right, and here you've perfected it.

Nice clean lines. Nice balance between left to right. Just a few things I've like a ask you to do next time you update this with pics...

    (1) take the heater, thermometer and filter out for the photo.
    (2) Try not to get the lamp in the picture
    (3) and straigthen the background. (lol)

Will make a very nice pic if your eyes are not distracted with the hardware.

    +1

    Thanx everybody!

@Zoom, thanx for the tips. I'll remember them when next I take pics.
background will be straight as soon as it's actually fixed to the tank and not just tucked against the side. hehe

a little funny regarding open topped setups. I thought I was losing a lot of water due to evaporation, sometimes up to a liter a day.
until the mystery was solved when I caught BOTH my cats blissfully drinking from the tank.... you know, fish water is much tastier than what's in their water bowls

Great looking nano Anine, well done. Some flame moss on the wood will look awesome.

    @Anine

I think Fishious will be very happy in this setup.

Things I like about this tank are as follows:

    Its practical
    Its green
Another colour substrate always looks good
The colours of red and green along with the rocks looking good.

Keep it up you are a nano pro man!!

I like the look of the wood coming out the top, really nice. We're thinking of maybe starting a nano project soon, its the biggest tank we can still fit into our flat alongside the rest of our tanks :)

Vis, about a week now. so far so good, although I suspect some of the java ferns may not make it, they weren't in the best condition to begin with but was all I could find :\

Thought it must very new, looks very clean. Jave fern can sometimes
be funny, you would most likely
get a lot of algae on the white rocks and you substrate make a shift
    to the flatter side.
    Do you vacuum your substrate?

But you have a very good balance all around the tank.

hehehe, I already have some slimey stuff on the wood which is threatening to spread to the rocks too. I'm sure I'll get green algea soon enough yes!
you think the substrate may shift? if it does, can I fill the 'ramp' with something more stable?

I do a gravel vac about once a week. first one was last night and had to be very gentle not to hoover up too much of the substrate. same with water changes, very gently add new water or the gravel goes everywhere

Hope not but the fines substrates shifts much faster then bigger gravel.

Filling a Nano is always fun :)

The best looking nano I've seen on TASA,love it!.
One crit. from me,the row of rocks on the left looks out of place and I would replace the Java fern on that same side with some hair grass or Lilaeopsis or tenellus.Okay that's two_Other than that, beautiful.
You can keep that slope up by inserting clear plastic strips.
    Good job.
