    Hi All

I am new on this forum so please move this tread if it is not in the right place.

I have a problem with my built in filters, what happens is when I fill the tank and switch on the pumps then the one side runs out to fast the inlet is half full but the part were the pump is, is almost dry? so I decided to put in a pipe to the filter material to keep it full that seems to work but now the other side runs out way to fast..... :wondering: this tank was setup by someone else and he said it work 100% can someone please tell me what I have to do to sort this problem out.

All the equipment is exactly like he had it as far as I know..

    Internal box filter....

Sounds like the pump is out-pumping the intake. In other words something is restricting the flow to the pump and the pump is pumping water out faster than it can be replaced.

Take out all the media and then try it

Hi no I don't have a sump it is a filter that is build on the side of the tank that looks almost like a sump.... my 2m has it on both sides.
it has 3 compartments 1 were the water from the tank enters then it flows over the glass to the next compartments were the filter material is then it flows under the glass again into the 3rd compartment were the pump is that pushes the water back into the tank.

I hope you can understand what I mean....

    OK neilh
    I will try that tonight.
my only other problem is when the one side works right then the other side runs almost dry.... what could that be?

Oh okay. Are both pumps the same e.g do they push the same amount of water and is it always the same side running dry?

yes as far as I can tell they pump the same amount of water out but they are not the same pumps though as far as I can remember they pump out +/- 1200lt/h

Sounds like Neil has hit it on the head - the filter media on the one side is probably too tightly packed - take some out and loosen it a little then see if you have same problem.

I think that you've also got the wrong inlet and outlet compartments. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that from the 1st to the 2nd compartment, water should flow under the dividing wall, and then from the 2nd to the 3rd, water should flow over the dividing wall.

the only thing that bugs me is it worked fine when the other guy had it and I have not added or removed any filter material at all is there any thing else that it could be..

I will still take out the filter material to night and see if there is any difference

All sumps i've used, the return pump is fed under rather than over. Bit of evaporation and you'll all of a sudden have an empty return chamber

Are the filters sitting at the same height? Could be one is higher than the other and after some evaporation it is not flowing in the filter fast enough????

Guys and Gals what i found in most cases like this is that the waterlevel in the tank is too low.It might need just 1cm.

Try filling the tank a little bit more and see what happens.
