I got my tank the weekend!! Been cleaning it on Saturday.

Just have put this in: DAMN this thing is heavy :p:p It went up the stairs to the first floor!!!

And my son stood for a free pose

    Dimensions is 2000 x 600 x 600
Overflow with sump 700x 400 (can't think of the dimension now)
    Uplift pump and 2 x 300watt heaters

Question : The guy I bought it from gave me the ceramic rings, Bio-balls and a whole bag of round sponges. What would I put in where for the most effectiveness? Attached is a picture of what the person did.

Normally you put the sponges (mechanical filtration) before the rings and bio-balls. Other than that, I'd say try to clean between the rings and balls more often, it looks a little dirty there.

So... what're you going to put in it? ;)

Ok so what he had going there was the wrong way around??

Sponges first, then the rings and then the bio balls??

Thx. Was really looking at your 1.8 meter but the width didn't work for me either :wondering:

I bought it for a ridiculous price, I think, of R2500. Just need to clean and want to re-varnish it a darker color.

O and there is a timer in there also for the lights!! Super stoked about that!!

Lovely looking tank their ace. I hope your floor can hold the weight of that tank... heehee..

Yes, Sponges first, then ceramic ring, then bio-balls. You could actually also put some filter floss on TOP of the sponges so the water falls through the fine floss first. Acts as a brilliant mechanical filtration.

That tank is going to look amazing once it's got some plants and fish in it!

I have to add that you could maybe add some sponge(or filter floss) in the overflow instead of the sump, then you can use that as mechanical filtration. Large to medium to fine, then the sump can act as biological filtration all on its own.

    nice size tank!

whats the cabinet made from? is there a steel frame?

    regarding the sump filtration:
    1. The bio balls should remain "dry" and not be submerged in water to provide correct wet dry filtration. The water should therefore trickle throught bioballs. This will be a challenge due to the sump design and positioning of the baffles...
    2. Therefore, ideally the filter media layout should be:
    - Chamber one (trickle chamber):
    > filter floss
    > sponge
    > bio balls
    - Chamber two
    > bio media, in this case ceramic rings.
    - Chamber three
    > return

    cheers

So I can drop the bio balls into the overflow box in the tank. Then the water should just run over them?? If you look close at the overflow box there is 2 pieces of glass siliconed to the inside so the water would splash from them onto the bio balls.

Then in the fist chamber I then add the filter floss and sponges.

Then in the second chamber the ceramic rings.

So the third chamber stays open just for the return pump.

putting it into the overflow is a good option but first lets have a pic of the overflow...

I should realy have asked first before I suggest this...what type of fish/plants do you plan on keeping?

@Sarf: :p So you were the guy that went the Saturday afternoon?? Lucky me for putting the deposit down

Ya when I saw it I knew this guy put allot of time and effort in this tank. And he build it himself :blink1: Could see him and his son was real sad to have seen it gone last Saturday.

Been CLEANING, CLEANING, CLEANING, CLEANING and CLEANING :eek::eek:

Here is the pics of the overflow, holes and the sump.

Dolphin I'm looking to put in Angels, Gouramis and a Siamese fighter with a few females. Also a group of tetras (probably neons)

Then on the plants side I want something that will grow easy and lush with the 3 x 65watt 6 foot T8 Cool white tubes in the canopy.

    Any idea's on the plants??
