    Tbh, Discus is one type of fish I would not buy from a fish shop.
    I would rather find a local breeder, who has a good reputation, and buy from him.
    Or, from a direct import from a well known fish farm.

    But "ordinary" Discus from the fish shop are a huge risk.
    If they come with parasites, worms or flagellates you will struggle from day one.

    Perhaps contact @Marco.
    He may be able to advise where the best place is to get Discus in SA at the moment

    Hahha yes... and no... does that sound crazy?

    Some bare bottom tanks i look at and really like them but every time i try bare bottom, which i usually do to raise newborn pups, it doesnt take long and im fedup with it
    Probably because my tanks are big... so you see the mends of the floating base and the silicone..
    Then any little piece of dirt you can see
    and i also find that algae starts growing very quickly on the bottom glass or along the edges
    I also have fish that enjoy the substrate and in nature have very specific behaviour in the substrate like the rays and geos and clown loaches and then i feel like im not seeing or giving them a natural or as natural as possible environment to live in and... i cant wait to add substrate back

    I have just raised 2 litters of pups bare bottom but they getting big now but obviously with the lockdown, havent gone to new homes yet and last week I had had enough of bare bottom so i have put some pfs and few stones and wood in for them
    Immediately they start displaying their natural instinctive behavior.. trying to move the stones.. blowing into the sand looking for food and throwing tantrums..
    So.... i dont know... difficult to say yes or no!!
