    Hi all

I am in the process of getting a tank builder to build me a 1.6 by 600 by 600 tank with sump. Going to put it on a steel frame stand with cupboard. Firstly thanks @Marko for the sump advice and doing the drawing. Now that I got the sump design and how I am going to do this I have a few questions for all of you that have had tanks built. Firstly, is their any thing that I should insist on with the tank builder besides the bracing, and using 10mill glass? Is their any thing I should ask him regarding quality of glass? Is their a difference in quality when using black silicone compared to clear? As I would like black. I am happy to share the price that I am getting this for if the mods allow so you can tell me if I am over charged or not.

If you think of any thing that I have left out then, please add in.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Would just suggest that the bracing on the top and bottom is good. Dont go for side bracing as this is just ugly. And get him to build the bracing so you can use sliders. I would love to see what you paying for this set up.

If you intend using canisters for the future, try and have the bracing allow for the canister piping, taking the glass covers into consideration. Make sure the silicone work is done very neatly.

Also make sure your overflow is something u will prefer.

And ask for starfire glass (low iron)... won't have the usual "green tint" from thicker "normal glass. Black silicone is fine, most of the marine tanks are built using black silicone, looks much nicer :D

Hi i thaught about the star fire glass however, for that size, the price was just far to much.

When I got my tank 2 years ago, I could have gone for the Optiwhite (Low iron UK equivalent), but it is very expensive, so I didn't go for that option.

That was my problem. The star fire glass would have been fantastic.

Going to take my time with this one. Waiting for the 4foot that was cracked to come back. Once I move the discus back in to that tank, it will give me time to decide what I am going to do with this. Thinking seriously about planting.
