    I just moved to Kimberley (as you all know) and when I packed up.... my Kissers laid eggs which I had to forfeit because the tank was being packed for the move.....

    In the same tank.... I have a number of Orange Chromides growing out to be breeders one day..... Last night.... this 5ft tank sprung a leak and I was compelled to dismantle again..... Only to find one batch of healthy Chromide fry swimming below the parents....

    The tank was leaking so fast.... I had to remove the parents (and all other fish) and..... I tried to get as much of the fry as I could by vaccuming the base..... but I see none in the bucket..... I will however keep it seperate for a couple of days to see what evolves....

    I (at least) managed to seperate the parents to a 24" tank on their own.... so.... hopefully.... they will continue to breed there as well.... Just that the timing was sooo bad for this tank to start leaking spontaneously.....

    Will see if any of the LFs' around here can do a complete dismantling and reconstruction of the tank.... It also leaked some 9 months ago.... & I did my own repairs..... My diagnosis of the problem is.... Amazon sword plants.... their roots penetrates below the silicon seams and causes the tank to leak..... is that possible??

    @Cheetah,
    I have heard of plant roots weakening the silicone. If I remember correctly, the owner of one of the lfs I go to told me it happened to his tank at home.

    I don't think you can!
    The roots are probably quite strong and penetrate everywhere.
    Kind of like growing a tree too close to a house, the foundations will get damaged.

    @Ammar - You could plant them in ceramic pots in your substrate?

    i guess thats 1 option not sure tho if it would affect the growth of the plant with limmiting roots to a confined space.

    I would imagine this would limit the growth of the plant but isn't that what you want if plants are growing so big they are splitting the glass?
