    Hello All

    I have 4 tanks.
    1 x 1 Foot tank in study.
1 x 3 Foot display tank in living room.
    2 x 1.5 Foot in garage. ( I had 3)

I like the 2 tanks in the garage but I think its more of a hassel to keep them and I don't enjoy them.
As I'm typeing this I can look at my 1 foot nano, it's not as great as the ones in the garage but I enjoy it.
And I see the 3 footer every day when I watch TV.

So now the question. What the point of have multipel tanks staked in a place you may be spent 1% of you time and other people don’t even see. To be onset, you don’t have a dop or coffee in the garage in the middle of winter? Not even in summer for that fact.

So why do we keep them?

Would be intresting to hear your thoughts.

    Later All

How else do you keep incompatible species that you just have to have?

Where else do you keep all those extra plants that aren't part of your current display tank?

    You need a quarantine tank...

Just one type of scape is boring...

I can carry on all night...

Well for me my garage is prob the busiest part of my house. Dont know where else id fit a 6 foot a 7 foot a 5 foot and 4 foot tank in my house. So im pretty happy with them there. Sometimes pull the cars out pull out some couches and a beer and chill out in my garage. @Jay knows this very well.

You know what @DerikPelser I was thinking the same thing this morning, when I woke up to my Starphire cube that sprung a leak.... Almost the whole 218 liters of water on the floor on the pluggs everything wet, I`m devestated...had to brake everything down and catch what I can....I`m tired sitting here, was late for work 3.5 hours hands bruised arm bruised...loss is priceless

Personally, I dont think its worth it. Rather focus on one or two tanks and realise that we cant have all the fish we want thats out there. What you have in one tank or two, try to do your best. I feel the primary focus is on family and making sure our kids get the best that we can provide. MTS in some ways is almost like an addiction. Its on your mind all the time. Then you got to take a steop back. Mind you one tank can also have this effect.

For me personally, the most i had at once was 4 tanks. Now its only one. I dont stress about it. The thing is, the less i tinker the better the fish seem to be. Go figure.

I had a... well, let's just say a number of tanks a while back. Several of them were inside the main house as display tanks. As a result, they had to look nice, with 'pretty' fish and nice scaping.

The additional tanks outside of the house were really where my hobby was. Sure, I loved my indoor fish, as they were big and bold and beautiful, but all my breeding attempts, oddball ugly fish and less-than-stellar displays had to be done outside of the public eye, as visually these didn't or couldn't match up to a proper display. But I had the most fun with these tanks because I was free to have all sorts of stuff going on.

As a plus, any quarantine tanks or aggressive fish had a place to stay should trouble arise.

MTS has its place, so long as you have space and time for it.

    Regards,

It's only worth if you are getting enjoyment from them.
If you aren't, there is no point.

    Our fishies are a hobby.
To take our minds off the rigours of work etc.
If fish keeping becomes a chore, then one should close down some of the tanks. No point in keeping them going for the sake of it.

I have a few empty tanks - YOU NEVER KNOW when you might need them and when you do, and you don't have - well what can I say.
I don't NEED them !!! One day I will fill them all - and besides THEY WERE A BARGAIN WHEN I SAW THEM - how could I refuse a bargain lol lol.

To me it is some of my best family time. My kids love to help "Pappa" feed the fish and wash the tanks and gravel. "Mamma" on the other had love's to go an sit and relax with all the tanks bubbling and water flow. So to me having MTS is really rewarding not only in my hobby passion but in quality time with the family.

When my kids were really small, they used to love coming with me to the fish shop.
But they went so many times that now that they are a bit older, they are gutvol of it and refuse to come with me now

Get them their own tanks. Maybe the interest will pick up otherwise you have some extra tanks :amuse:

Some great points in this topic and we can really relate to them. Alot of hard work but also very rewarding when you look back at your fish.

    I would love to.
But the Mrs has put her foot down and made me close down some of my smaller tanks.....in return for upgrading to my 550L tank.

Your tank or tanks are there for your enjoyment... If you not enjoying it and its disrupting your life.. then don't have many or even one... using common sense to find a happy medium between time money and effort. As was said its a break from our hectic day today lives, a happy place that we all go to... be that in your room... your garage... your shed...

I agree with a lot of the comments above as it makes no sense to spend precious time and buckets of cash on something that you are not enjoying!

If you are spending spare or "budgeted" time and money that does not affect you or your family's general well being - be it on a nano on your desk, a 2 metre planted display or a basement breeding project - and you are relaxing an having fun, then.... All Good!

If not........... you have lost the plot!

Great topic! I have recently downsized a bit, from 5 tanks to 2 simply because it was becoming a chore and not a pleasure. In th beginnin it was awesome, but after sometime i was struggling to find the time to maintain them all, plus it was quite heavy on the wallet. Now i can relax and enjoy still enjoy the two larger tanks! Its mesmerising and can get lost in my tanks...

    +1 @dkj and @ROEKSTE
I have a community tank in my office, a small 40 liter in the kitchen (for the kids - "their" fish...) and lots of Killi breeding tanks in my 3rd garage recently converted to a fish room. Made it comfortable for myself with a desk and chair, workspace etc. Where I would previously sit on the couch and watch sport I am now with my fish and involving the kids who helps with feeding, WC etc... Great educational value I think (check that, -know)

Well My wife and I have 3 small tanks a 120l tetra tank and the 400 litre Live Bearer tank. One of the small ones is a grow out tank the largest of the three for our paradise fish and the last one for my inverts. Getting a larger one next year and a new quarantine tank. We spend a lot of our quality time in the fish room and the kids also love it. So for us it is more of a family thing than a chore. When the other two tanks is in place then we will probably stop "hoarding and just keep the fish to breed so that the hobby can pay for itself.
