Yeah could be true but one can't always nice plants from everyone. All you get here is cuttings from overgrows. Most of the time. I was lucky to get some nice big plants from a member.

and whats wromg with cuttings? 99% of true aquatic plants can propogate roots from.cuttings?

I dont have a single plant from a lps. All my plants are from members cuttings and sponsors. I might also add here that I have never had any illness breakout or snail breakout. . . Usually stuff you get from lps.

Well I guess if you got a good environment for plants with all the needed nutrients and stuff, rootless plants are fine - they'll get going in no-time. I'm still struggling a bit so plants that has a nice established root system is a bit less tricky I guess.

    Lets' stop going off topic.

Im not going off topic Razer. Im making a point that most lps plants are rubbish. They are usually in horrible condition, and the roots are usually rotting in that glass wool in any case.
Many of the plants in the lps tanks are also cuttings in any case.

The topic of the thread is about most common sold plant names, thus we can deduce that the thread owner wants to know what to ask for when buying. . . A very wise decision might I add. Thus I concluded that the author will probably be looking at buying plants soon.

All I was stating is that you will get healthier plants out of Tasa members cuttings, or ordering from our sponsors.

You have seen @Henk Hugo tank have you not? Henk has some of the most healthiest plants I have seen in a long time (bba aside) . I will die a happy man if I ever come across any lps in sa that have plants even remotely close to this condition. Also remeber, if you are getting free clippings from members, you know those plants are healthy and strong. . . I mean poor conditioned plants dont grow to produce cuttings.

Yeah I've been there but couldn't really have a nice look at it.

It can be true but I haven't really experienced bad plants. I only got snails once and they were dealt with in no-time. The only bad part was deficiencies in my tank.

The only downside really to cuttings is that it takes longer to reach a good size :D

I prefer the cuttings, since then I find the melting of plants are less likely to happen, also my cuttings grow fast. Normally within a month Im ready for the first trim.

Might I add... I bought a small load of clippings from @wolf and it was the most healthy looking plants I have seen in a long time. Plus they were out of their comfort zone for a good part of 36 hours (packing, posting from CT and receiving 160km south east of JHB)

ag thanks man! You sommer make me want to shed a tear! It all comes down to good lighting and good plant fertz.

@Razer2007 all stem plants you buy come from cuttings. When we do the plant import i'll show you what it looks like. The stems are cut relatively close to the base of the plant and then packed 5 to 6 stems per bundle, wrapped in a thin layer of foam and then crimped with either lead or plastic.

I guess we have been lucky on occasion here in CPT then, I've seen crypts / ferns / mosses / hair grass etc etc

The big problem is that you have to find them early when it literally just came in. Otherwise it gets lost in the other non aquatic plants and end up in really bad shape!

Cuttings from members is almost always the best way to go, you can see when a plant is doing well and as long as you take the time to find out what the member was doing in his/her tank to get them to grow, the easier it is for you to do the same.

With each system being different, the outcome isn't always the same, but this just shows you how the plants adapt to their environment and can lead to some truly beautiful pieces!

lots of hygro's difformis, stricta the works, but as luca said you must get them as they come in as they do not care for them at all and they just weather away.
