    Hi Fishy Folk...

After all this rain I have many water-traps with mosquito larva and other worms (they are red-Bloodworm???)

Dr Bellstedts suggested that these make good food.

How do you collect these, as evertime I try I get a sh!t load of other debris... any tips will be welcome.

ps Is there anything in these non permanent bodies of water that I should be wary of from a fishes health point of view.

In my personal opinion, I would be vary wary of feeding live food, unless you are 100% sure of where it is coming from. There could be a lot of other bacteria and/or parasites in the water or with the larvea that could cause potential problems.

I would advise the frozen bloodworm, as the freezing process will generally kill off any parasites and bacteria that is not wanted.

That been said, I know a few people feed live larvae, and it would be interesting to hear other people's results.

Thanks Bob...It just seems a waste all that larva...but having said that, my fish have been feasting on flying ants the last few days (the termite kind)... I have even frozen some...

Hee hee...I have a whole deep freeze shelf filled with frozen foods...but I like to supplement my fishes diet with "fresh" food as often as possible. I have a wormery (Earthworms) and breed crickets. Not to mention my little fly trap...it is a bit cruel pulling of the wings but my fish luuuv it!

ps I must also be the only person who will catch a cockroach as opposed to squashing it for my fish......

I have modiified a 2lt coke bottle -cut the top off and inverted it. I bait it with smelly stuff. I have dogs so I place the trap in proximity to the landmines" they leave... The flies get in but not out (well not all of them as they are quite clever). I put the whole thing in a plastic bag to remove the flies by letting them out into the bag and pressing it flat so they can't move...

I also catch all sorts of things goga's and things and feed it to my fish, or give them first option on the goods, they love catching live stuff.

And there are few things in life as satisfying as seeing your fish rid the world of a future generation mosquito's and seeing them enjoy it. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling

Generally things like mozi larva, I rinse for a while in clean water (a few times and a few minutes at a time) before i pass them onto my fish. Not sure if thats enough to keep all the baddies at bay but i'm sure it helps.
