I have a bucket outside that has filled with rainwater and now has mosquito larva in it. Can/should I feed these to my fish? I have googled it and it seems fine but I want some current up to date opinions.

I used to do it, till I lost my biggest Bala Shark. He feasted on it, gorge himself, and suddenly started jumping frantically out the water and swing around like crazy. Within hours he was dead.

He could have eaten too much or he could have taken another kind of larvae with hooks that could get stuck. If you sure there is only mosquito larvae in the bucket, feed them but in moderation. I had too many, which I scooped out of a rotting swimming pool.

Dragonfly nymph is apparently very dangerous and can be in the same water as the mosquito larvae.

They are pretty obviously not larvae though they look more like brine shrimps really...
But it's good to know they are dangerous... Didn't know that :)

I am pretty sure that these are mossie larvae and will be fine. Fishes are nuts about them and their nutritional value is high. As long at the toilet was empty  before it filled up with rainwater, they should be just fine, but you should not overfeed. Google for black mosquito larvae to see what they look like, they occur everywhere in the world.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Thanks for all the replies. I put 4 in just to see how it would go. My GBR got 2, the other fish didnt seem interested. I left the remaining 2 in the tank - maybe later they will get eaten

So you have to eat healthy food, so the mossies are well fed so that your fish get mossies that are nutritious and delicious and grow and stay healthy. LOL - that makes you the bottom of the food chain :hahaha:

OK, guys, sorry to disappoint you about this but the mossies that bite you are the females, not the males (always the females that do the biting right Murray). They bite you to draw blood so that they can feed their eggs. Then they lay their eggs in free water (or empty toilets....) and then the mossie larvae hatch. They then need to eat algae to get big. So it is not the blood that the female mossies drink/eat that make the mossie larvae large guys, it is plain old algae. Nothing dracula like at all, sorry guys, just the normal female nonsense.....

I will now creep into my bombshelter and wait for the barrage of female bombshells headed my way....

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    No my china,

They eat humans regardless if whether they are males or females, so they will eat you, but it is the female mossies that do the biting.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
