Typically it is a unit of magnet shaft and the impeller ... I have seen on some aquarium pumps that it is all a sold unit i.e. no moving bits, then I have also seen that the impeller is free to move in one direction but not the other so that when the shaft plus magnet rotate you the pump works. A last design was that the magnet rotated on the shaft but that it would lock the impeller when energised.

In-short at some point your impeller needs turn when power is applied.

Sorry I tried to google for your pump but came up with this .. [IMG]

Don't think this is what you have in your tank.

Does it look like something was broken on the impeller or just wear and tear ?

could be that the impeller needs to be loose in one direction but locked in another rotational direction.

There is a rubber grommet on each end use a fork to remove it by putting the shaft throug a forks teeth doesnt matter which rubber comes off first .On the internal part is a white sleeve that pushes through the magnet and is then heat pressed on the other end. When the pump is started it acts like a torque converter for the motor to get up to speed first before the blades are turned.I think due the chalk in the water it has build up some chalk on the shaft and caused the heat pressed section to break off causing only ghe magnet to rotate and not the shaft. Temporarly fixed it with a hot glue gun but only use a tiny bit otherwise the glue is squeezeed in between the shaft and then the torque converter function does not work...I would suggest some preventative maintenance just remove that rubber gromet clean the shaft and put back again. As it is a second hand pump I dont know how old it is. I am glad its working again

Cool - glad you got a solution with hot glue .. not sure how long that will last, but hey as long as it spins.
