Hi guys and girls. Does anyone here have a microworm culture that I could buy a starter culture from?

Now, I'm under correction here, but from what I can recall, you put a piece of bread out dipped in milk, and within a coupla days your microworms will appear..... or is this the formula to start infusoria... Don't take this as gospel, but let's hear what the other members say.

Cheetah, that is a way of feeding them, but you need to add a starter culture.

I maintain a simple microworm culture Cheetah. In my own case the microworm cltuire depends mainly on a reliable culture that I maintain. My microworm culture, a culture of tiny non-worm creatures , relies mainly on how well I feed them. My culture has been in existance for well over a year so it is a reflection of long term care, not simple short term methods. In my case, I received a simple sample of a micro worm culture from an E-BAY person. The needs of a micro worm culture, largely derived from that vendor's instructions are simpe. Use a simple base of oatmeal to set up a culture medium. I cook some oatmeal as if I were preparing a breakfast meal for myself with typical cooking instructions. The next step is simple as can be, let the culture medium cool to near room temperature. Once you have the medium at room temperature, place a sample of the resulting breakfast cereal at room temperature and leave it undisturbed. My own sample of oatmeal is about 1/2 inch thick, about 13 mm. I then add about half as much rice baby cereal to my microworm sample. This means that I end up with a mix of about 2/3 oatmeal and 1/3 baby cereal. The mix is often far too dry so I add in a bit of water but try not to allow the resulting mix become very thin as a result of the non-biological content. My mix is nothing if not a stiff mix of microworms and oatmeal.
The benefit of using the baby cereal is simple to explain. The mix that includes oatmeal and baby cereal means that you are setting up your microwroms topbe more than simple poor quality live food. Instead you are establishing a mix of live content that includes both food species and fish species.

Can offer you a starter portion, but even though mine are hand tame I have no idea how we get this delightful wormy mixture up to you, as I'm in the Cape !

Microworms can be easily mailed if the weather isn't extremely hot or cold. Just remember that they need oxygen to survive, so send them in a roomy container. That's the way I got mine.

I have shipped microworms to Canada and the trip took about a week in decent weather. I simply placed them in a plastic bag and put that into a CD shipping envelope. After a week in transit, including some time in Canada's customs, they arrived healthy and ready to use.
