Where can I find in Cape Town microworm culture?

 

im also in need of that ,i know theres someone on the site that sells it and will post keith,i read the post a while back ,now just to find it.

Getting a microworm culture is not that easy. . .Prospective keepers need to apply with the relevant governing body for acceptance.

I must warn you, screening and acceptance into the MWPS is not something we take lightly.

@Trevor Pleco is the founder and relevant person in Cape town area, I suggest getting in touch with him.

You would probably remember me, I used to breed Tanganyikan cichlids and then went onto discus, sold off everything since the time of my dad's death and could not adjust. The person I sold off all my equipment and fish had disappeared with not paying me a cent. Apparently he operates in the Western Cape stealing from fish breeders and suppliers. He is currently being investigated as I managed to finfd out the Petshop who he had sold off my fish as the owner was under the impression that I had received my money and he ran off with all the money of the Petshop. Now I have decided to start again as this bugg of breeding fish had re-surfaced.

I bought a pair of betta on the Christmas weekend and the pair accidently spawned in the first week of January, female decided to jump out of her holding cell and joined the female and now I am sitting with fry. They are now +27 days old and looks very healthy. I started to browse the betta forums for more information about bettas I only intended for them to breed later.

I started following the threats about caring for betta and I found these forum very interesting. Now that I am doing my research I am founding out where I can improve on my mistakes and also thanks for the ideas of all the members on this forum.

I had been feeding fry on bbs from the time they were hatched and also liqui-fry. Fry are growing at a rapid pace and also regular water changes. Ick was present in my fry tank, washed off everything with warm water and filled the tank with aged water and added a few droplets of ick medication and raised the temperature, and constantly doing daily water changes. Ick has disappeared but still keeping temperature at 28dg and still doing my water changes. I have alos added a snail to do clean-up during the day. Feeding fry 3 times a day.

While browsing the forum I noted that microworms are the first staple food for fry as bbs causes bladder problems. Since having them on bbs there seems to be no problem. Fry are starting to come to the surface for air.

Remember that MW are only good for so long, I've been using BBS without any swimbladder problems, on other sites I've researched some people complained about the same thing and others say they had no problems with this. In my opinion I think its an issue of overfeeding and incorrect water parameters. Some people also use the same hatching water for the BBS over and over again. Don't do this, always make a new solution every time for your BBS. If you use the old water over and over again, there is a bad bacterial bloom in that water, hence the problems with the fry etc. It is cheap enough to make a new solution every time, I mean, just smell the air that comes out of your BBS container with the first solution, now test this and use the same solution 3 times and smell the diff... you want to puke and thats what you put into your fry tank... not worth it!!!!! Always clean your container every time thoroughly before re-using it. You do get the odd fry with deformities but thats normal and could be genetic. Don't over feed and keep your fry tank very clean and do 10% water changes every day and treat your BBS the same as your fry and all should go well.

 

How do you go about when feeding your bbs? I usually use a straw and remove some bbs and place them into a small tot glass, I then use a syringe to extract them from tot glass and feed fry. Does one need to wash off the bbs before feeding the fry. I have not been rinsing off bbs with clean water "tap water" or "aged water". What amount would I feed my fry of about 50? The amount I usually feed I have been giving them since they could eat.

I also have a container with sea water where I would empty all my 2 day left over hatches. They are growing and there is some many I feed them with yeast or liqui-fry. Would these brine shrimp be of any value to me so that I could feed my fry and adult bettas in the grow out tank.
