Microwave algae as a food source

Anybody on the forum every microwave algae and other aquatic plants as a dry food source for fish?

Any plants that I should avoid doing this with .. .i.e. they turn toxic or something weird?

 

wouldnt microwaving it kill alot of the good nutrients?

Don't microwave it, just let it dry out. That way, the cells wont explode while being nuked.

 

agree with slagter. Microwaving won't ''kill'' any nutrients...well i dont think so anyway. If you nuke the plants/algae fresh the cells will rupture so when you feed it to fish you will prob just be feeding the water, but if by drying the cells stay intact then the nutrients wont leech out into the water and the fish can get maximum benefits..

The simplest sometimes is the best ... other 1/2 got a bit concerned with the smell in the microwave .. so I left some aquatic matter on top of the 4 ft's leathergrain hood. Heat from the lights seem to do the trick.

BTW Riccia is way too tough once dry - will try some moss .. as time / stock allows.
