    Try ebay
Many sellers also offer international shipping

thanks, was hoping i could find someone local. with shipping it takes about 4-6 weeks and our 'reliable' postal services makes me a bit scared to buy on ebay at the moment.

Man trying so hard to rid tanks of clado - not sure I would willing add that algae to a tank.

These balls normally dont last very long and are a bit of maintenance. These days you would most likely get a balls rolled by humans and no longer the one that occur naturally.
Not worth in the in the long run. Rather get a small piece of drift wood and cover it in Fissidens or Xmas mos.

BTW I was reminded of this ...
Seems like gdt78 is correct Marimo's are not allowed to be imported. @Maxeen why not rather do something similar in moss?

Saw these a few years back ... nice challenge.

Not so sure about that...apparently there are specimens > 200 years old...

@Guardian yes in nature, in a tank I have my doubts.

I have been looking for Marimo Moss balls all over, but gave up my search when I saw they were blacklisted.

They are very cool. Almost a living creature. They would move around, float and then sink at times. Maintenance wise, you need to squeeze them out with every water change to remove any waste they picked up during the week. To make more, you take a biggish one and split it in half.

Would love to get some for my betta tanks. Apparently they offer great filtration in an aquarium.

If you have ever had clado in your tank and battled to get rid of it, your desire to willingly introduce it will diminish.

That said I so understand the need for something that is spherical and green - seen some lovely scapes that almost looked futuristic. I have been contemplating make a moss ball turner - no clue is such a thing exists - but hear me out.

What if one had a way to secure moss on some object - but that object was rotated say 4 times a day while light are on. Surely that should be something cool.

Guys I’ve had a request from a retailer who wants to understand whether or not Marimo moss balls are really blacklisted.

I couldn’t find it on the list
    http://redlist.sanbi.org/genera.php?generalike=a

As far as I can tell the scientific name for marimo moss is Aegagropila linnaei

    Anything I’m missing?

I’ve looked at the docs and lists @MariaS posted on the blacklisted species thread

Thanks @oupoot it did help, gave 2 other species names.

    Cladophora sauteri, or Cladophora aegagropila

I’m interested in the lists Deadpool spoke about but don’t see the website link in his signature? Perhaps just because I’m on my phone?

Getting clado in your tank is no joke. Its probably the worst thing that can happen. I would consider very carefully the import of and selling of marimo balls.

@TheGrissom would that contact of yours at the Dept have a list of blacklisted aquatic plants?

The equivalent of the NEMBA list? It’s making things very difficult for retailers to not have that
