Good day, I have a few female guppies and a few male guppies with other fish in the tank as well, My one female guppy is being chased by like 4 males which is funny i have plenty of females in the tank. The males are from a different Home than the females but they have been living together for id say 4 months now. The female guppy was very fat in the beginning and now her tummy is smaller though don't know if the males made her have an abortion or what? in the picture you will see a younger female with the bigger female but it is only the big one that is being chased.DSC_0614.JPG

She gave birth to baby guppies, then they got eaten (probably). That is why here tummy is smaller again.

She is probably the 'most beautiful' and most mature female guppy in the tank, that is why all the female guppies chase her. Same as in humans, the guys all want the pretty woman, not the ugly ones.

Good day Johan and Super Sywurm
I also have guppies. I have read on the internet that for every male guppy you must have two female guppies and that guppies eat their fry just after giving birth. How I have overcome this problem is by buying guppy breeding containers and -nets that you place into the aquarium and put the females in there just before giving birth. You can tell she is about to give birth is (as you mentioned) her tummy is very full (bloated) and where she has a black or orange gravid spot. The dark coloured spot is a sign of the young fry's eyes just near her cloachal opening where the young are gathered before being entered into the aquatic world. I have 3 tanks now and after almost a year my guppies have more than 4 times doubled. Are you guys breeding guppies for a hobby or for selling purposes?

Thank you all for the replies, i also believe she gave birth, i am new too the whole aquarium now basically 4 months busy with the process of the tank. I started with my girlfriends old tank and guppies (females) her males all died can't say why but the new one's i got took over. I have got like 35 fish in my tank that is an estimate only. I am not going for breeding but would like to start to breed but that would be on a later stage i am now only learning what to do when and i am enjoying it a lot.

I also started with guppies as a hobby in March this year. Later on the more and bigger tanks I've got, the more I became interested to breed with them to sell them to pet stores. Unfortunately most of the colours of the offspring is red and orange. I want to breed with more yellow, blue and snakeskin varieties, because they are more pleasing to the eye. Which colours do you have?

I have blue purple i think not sure because where i am from we don't have a pet shop and i bought from this one guy here in my home town but i got a few females from him and then i also got the purple with the orange tails. I think the others that i have are Endler's i can not say for sure i need someone to ID them still i will be posting about them soon need to know if it is a guppy or an Endler for say breeding because i have read that Endler and Guppy hybrids are Sterile. So i would rather try and breed endlers with endlers and then the guppy with the guppy.

I'm interested in the blue and purple colours. Here in my home town I struggle to get that specific varieties. That is also I want to do by separating the endlers from the show guppies. Are you stationed here in the Western Cape or another province? If you are near to me maybe we can exchange guppies in the future

I've got one snakeskin red tuxedo guppy male. I'm pairing it with young females and see how their offspring will look like.
