Male and Female betta together?

I bought a male and female betta this weekend. I want to try breeding some cheap bettas first before trying something more expensive. But thats not what this is about. I have one tank with an really old male betta. So I put the male I bought in another tank and because I did not have another tank cycled I put the female in a betta breeder trap in the old male's tank. It went well the first day but the next morning I woke up I saw the trap empty and the female swimming happily next to the male looking for food. I have heard of a male with 4 females, but these 2 have been together for 3 days now and nothing has happened. I definately do not say you can keep them together,but these two are living peacefully together and swimming so close to as each other that they actually touch. The male is 3 years old now and not building bubble nests anymore. I am just so surprised that they live together, oh and no fin nipping either.

 

The female more than likely jumped the net. Beta's are known to jump.

What you actually did is a trick some people use to introduce the male and female to spawn. Basically put them in the same tank, but divided. Condition them to spawning condition, and then introduce them. You may find that either the male is too old, or they are night in the right spawning condition. But yes, this would be the way to introduce a single female to a male.

 

That male is just in there because I am still making his tank he is definetally to old to breed. The male I want to breed is in another tank

 

Thats so CUTE!!! Excuse my girly ways but I like that idea of an old male and a female keeping each other company.
