    Hi all
As same of you know, I'm going to keep same Malawi's.
now my q1 is What must be in the filter, to keep them safe. I know some crushed coral and the sponge or two.
it's a 90 cm tank and the filter, a home made, sits in the corner, 12cm by 12cm pump is a power head that is rated 1100l\h

    Hi Wolf

Do you have a pic of the filter that you are going to use in the malawi? You need to get ceramic and carbon for the tank as well......

    Regards

O Ok thats no problem. Keep your sponge clean at all times and use the coral chip. it maintains the ph of your tank. well i think that you have all the requirements in the filter side of things. O don't forget about the Carbon..

    Happy Keeping

Am I correct to assume that the power head is place in the bottom on the filter, with the return pipe attached to it (the one that can be seen in the picture), and the covered in filter media. My suggestion would be to make use of stockings or filter media bags, and put the media in them. This would make cleaning your filter much easier, and prevent a small piece of coral from being sucked into the power head and damaging the impeller. If you do this, you will also be able to add a small bag of activated carbon when the need arises.

Also concerned about a 92cm tank for malawis. They do best if kept in large/very large groups. You will not be able to stock a 92cm to much and could end up with dominance/aggression issues.

I also had major problems with malawi's in a 3ft, when I got them and they were still small, so i didn't see any problems, but they grow up fast and turned into 15cm fish, and a 3ft tank that was way to small for some agro fish
