I buy my flakes in bulk (5kg at a time)..... then I take a roller pin and roll out some of it for the fry.... It is basically equivalent size to the powdered fry food no.1 when I'm done, but in my opinion... it's a lot cheaper to do it this way..... (that which fitted in the big tin, ultimately goes into the smaller container after it is rolled out)

Probably not the same nutritional value, but my fry enjoys.

Cheetah- how long does 5kg's of food last. The only reason I ask is as per the Professor, the food starts loosing it's nutritional value after a period of time, and thus doesn't provide the necessary nutrition for the fish.

'tis a point to ponder, but I get approximately every 8 weeks.

Holy Moly... how many fish are you feeding if 5kg's is lasting you 8 weeks!!!

I'm using the professor's flakes. I bought 500grams of the stuff, and a year down the line I still have about half the stuff left!

I am bursting out of my seams with no market for them... I think everybody in town has at least 30 of my guppies, I've given to every kid on the block, every classroom at school has a tank of my guppies.... and I think at least 200 new ones are born daily.... My swords, Mollies and Convicts are all going the same way... I just cannot stop them from breeding.... Is there some sort of birth control that I can add to the water??... What can I do???

I hope this supplies some of the answers above.... I litterally chuck (around) 3 fistfulls of flakes in each of 5 ponds on a daily basis... & that is before I've fed the fish in the fishroom....

If only I had a balaclava, a black tracksuit, a roadmap, a mobile tank, some stakes for the dogs and a silent running car...

I probably have not done enough marketing from my side, but.... where I live, the local pet shop in Thabazimbi takes fish from me, but her vocabualary stopped at Guppies.... i.e,.... "can you please supply me with six guppies".... he! he!... then I supply on a credit exchange basis at R4 per female and R5 per male... (she does not pay untill all are sold - my suggestion) - If enough credit is built up.... I take a heater or pump from her... She has a grand total of 10 fish tanks....

To market further afield... (Pretoria etc)... I have a day job and will not be able to deliver

In the 1970's, I stayed in Welkom and the the OK Bazaars still had a pet's department and got all their fish from me, on condition that I spend my Saturday mornings at their store, in case any of the customers had a fishy question... yea... then it was profitable, and then I bred 35 different species...... Now, I do not even have access to breeding stocks and are stuck to breeding common livebearers and the likes.

You guys in the cities are soooooo lucky!!!

I call them ponds only on the grounds that they are outside.... they are in fact... just containers approximately 4ft x 3ft x 3ft deep... so not really ponds.... when I lived in Rustenburg... I had 12 circular (2m dia) kiddies pools with fish in, outside (apart from my garage tanks (40 of 'em... various sizes)
