Do you make use of these?

Or do you just use the good old brush when you water cycle?

I used them in my corner tank, and ended up with scratches, so I bought a new Marina one specially for the new tank, and now I also have scratches, but there's a good possibility they were there and I just didn't notice them before.

And I'm super careful about making sure the pads are clean, and not getting them close to the sand/gravel either, so it's not like I just go crazy with the stuff.

Yeah I have one of those brush/sponge on the plastic arm.

I figure I always use the magnets because it's easier to cover the entire surface accurately, and also see what you are doing through the glass instead of from above.

Good co-ordination doesn't always work on a very deep corner tank unit.

Should be easier on the new one though.

I was amazed... I know it's not ideal for everyone, but I bought a plant and two little plecs, and within three days, my glass was immaculate. I have since not needed to clean the glass once - amazing how nature will look after itself!

I found that the magnet ones scratch the glass terribly too. Not enthusiastic about them at all.

Could there be a difference between the products available?

Madam - I don't think it's an expensive one, it was R60 if i remember correctly.

Do they scratch the inside or outside?
What about lining the magnet with pieces of a new chamois?

Mine was also pretty cheap, I figured that's why it was scratching. Mine actually seems to scratch inside.

My fish also hate it for some reason, they freak out. I think I'll stick to monkey-arm (as above - Lol)...

Although as I say, the combination of plecs and plants seem to have my algae under control at the moment.

This is a brand new product that I bought for the new tank, and it's a Hagen/Marina one and was just over a R100 if I recall.

So not exactly cheap in my mind.

And it's not even like I have an algae issue, I just want to wipe that whitish tint off the glass surface.

But as I said, maybe all these scratches were there (2nd hand tank) and I only notice them now.

Will use it once more, with specific horizontal strokes to see if anything new shows up.

I've only really noticed it on the inside, the thicker pad side.

Nope, I've been specifically careful to stay away from the substrate so as not to accidentally lift any gravel.

And if the inside part lets go and drops, I pick it up by hand, I don't use the magnet to get it back.

Honestly it might all have been there, and only showing up now that the lights are sorted.

Will have another go and see.

On my other tank I caused it myself by lifting gravel.

Your tank is made out of acrylic right? if so it will scratch MUCH easier than glass , glass is alot tougher that acrylic

The prob with these is that it is very easy to get tiny bits of sand or gravel in the scraping surface which will scratch the hell out of the glass on your tank.

Both are proper glass as far as I know...from their weight.

Nothing Acrylic could be that heavy.

What causes the whitish tint on some tanks? I don't seem to have that problem...
